The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of our work is rooted in biology, but our research overlaps with other fields such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. This position is available within Johan Åqvist's research group in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program. The research focuses on computer simulations of enzyme catalysis, particularly regarding enzyme evolution and adaptation, in collaboration with experimental groups. Duties The research project encompasses computer-based analysis of enzyme evolution and adaptation to extreme environments. The tasks include computer simulations using molecular dynamics, EVB, and QM/MM methods, free energy calculations, bioinformatics analysis and protein structure modeling, as well as software development. Qualifications PhD in computational chemistry, structural biology, biophysics, or an equivalent foreign degree in these areas. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to those who obtained their degree within the past three years. The three-year period is calculated from the final application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within labor organizations, etc. Documented experience in computational chemistry and structural biology, demonstrated scientific excellence as evidenced by scientific publications and presentations at national and international conferences. The project involves collaboration across different disciplines, so strong ability to cooperate with others is essential. Great importance will also be placed on personal skills such as communication and collaboration skills, ability to work independently, as well as scientific maturity and creativity. A requirement for the position is fluency in English, both spoken and written, as the position is in an international environment. Desirable/Meritorious Experience Experience with molecular dynamics simulations, enzyme reaction modeling, structural bioinformatics, machine learning, and experimental biochemistry. About the Employment The employment is time-limited for a minimum of two and a maximum of three years according to the central collective agreement. The position is full-time.
