Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) (http://www.ltu.se/robotics) at the Department of System and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to our growing activities. The RAI team conducts fundamental and principled research within all aspects of robotics with a specific focus on aerial, space, and bio-inspired robotics. RAI's vision is to reduce the gap between theory and reality, and the team has a strong background in field robotics. Application areas we focus on include robotics for mining, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robot search and rescue for emergency services and similar applications, multi-sensor fusion, and multi-robot coordination which includes environmental perception, decentralization, and execution of specified tasks for multi-robot systems. The RAI team has strong participation in European R&D&I projects, and RAI participates in the DARPA SUB-T Challenge as a member of the CoSTAR team, which is led by NASA/JPL (https://costar.jpl.nasa.gov/). Subject Description Robotics and Artificial Intelligence aims to develop new robot systems characterized by advanced autonomy to enhance the robots' ability to interact with the environment and people while performing specific tasks. Project Description The position will involve extensive research activities within design, experimentation, and theoretical development focusing on the following combined research areas. Previous experience in one, or preferably, several of these areas is a merit. Reconfigurable 5G connectivity 5G/6G QoS (Quality of Service) Communication network control Markov processes Network-based localization / Radio-based connectivity Adaptive bandwidth Mesh networks Wireless sensor networks Edge computing Time-delayed systems Adaptive Queuing Duties The duties of a postdoctoral researcher are primarily research. You will conduct research with substantial experimental elements that should be published in peer-reviewed international academic journals and presented at major conferences. The duties include supervising doctoral and MSc students, teaching, and supporting the acquisition of funds for future research projects from research funding agencies/councils, EU projects, or industry. Qualifications To be eligible for employment, a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in control engineering or a related field is required. It is a merit if your degree was completed no more than three years before the last application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered if the doctoral degree was completed earlier, for example due to various types of statutory leave. The research tasks require a solid mathematical background with proven advanced experimental ability and excellent programming skills (e.g. C++, ROS, Matlab, etc.). You should have a strong vision to evaluate and demonstrate research results in real field and industrial conditions with an approach that reduces the gap between pure theory and experimental verification. You will need to represent the group in various contexts, both in Sweden and abroad, therefore excellent knowledge of English is a requirement.
