Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. Here we have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Description of the Workplace At the Clinical Microbiology research group, research is conducted within microbiology. For several years, the research has been at the forefront of the microbiology field. The group is led by Professor K. Riesbeck and consists of research and technical staff. The operations are located at the Wallenberg laboratory in Malmö. You can read more about our exciting research here: Within the research group, we value a good work environment with respect and care in our relationships with one another, and we strive for a workplace that feels developing and stimulating for all employees. We continuously work to create conditions for job satisfaction, development, and participation for all employees. We care for both physical safety and the psychosocial work environment. Project Description The project aims to investigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in gram-negative bacteria. The focus is on identifying resistance mechanisms against clinically important antibiotics. Bacterial isolates are analyzed using microbiological and molecular biological methods. The results are used to map the occurrence and spread of antibiotic resistance. The goal is to contribute to improved diagnostics, treatment, and monitoring of resistant bacteria. Tasks and Responsibilities As a postdoctoral fellow, you will conduct research focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with a particular emphasis on gram-negative bacteria. You will work experimentally in the laboratory and be responsible for, among other things, culturing and characterizing bacterial isolates, resistance determinations, and analysis of antibiotic susceptibility. Your tasks also include supervising master's students, other students, and doctoral candidates in their research projects, including laboratory work, data analysis, and bioinformatics. You are expected to actively contribute to the research group's scientific development by initiating and developing new research questions, writing scientific publications, and writing and participating in national and international research applications. The position offers opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit building. Teaching and other pedagogical activities may therefore be part of your responsibilities, as well as the opportunity to participate in higher education pedagogy training. For a complete description of tasks, see open positions on Lund University's website. Qualifications For the position, the following is required: • A doctoral degree in molecular microbiology or another closely related field that the employer deems relevant for the position. • Documented experience of laboratory work in microbiology and molecular biology. • Experience with culturing and characterization of bacteria as well as phenotypic resistance determination. • Experience with molecular methods for studying antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, especially pandrug-resistant (PDR) bacteria. • Experience with bioinformatic analysis, particularly analysis and interpretation of genomic and/or sequencing-based data. • Documented experience of scientific publishing in international scientific journals. • Experience with animal experiments. • Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written. • Very good ability to communicate scientific results orally and in writing in English. • Ability to work independently and to plan, conduct, and coordinate research projects. • Good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research. • Teaching ability. Meritorious for the position: The applicant in question should preferably have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. About the Employment Lund University is a state authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation, and favorable occupational pension. Planned start date October 1, 2026, or by agreement. Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, so you are expected to be able to perform your work on-site in Malmö. A postdoctoral position is intended as an introductory step in your career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden your research competence. How to Apply The position is advertised through the university's recruitment system. Your application should include a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how the position matches your qualifications. Your application should also include your degree certificate, CV or equivalent, and any other information you wish to provide (copies of transcripts, reference information, letters of recommendation, etc.) The Medical Faculty is an operational area within Lund University, responsible for education and research in medicine, healthcare, and health. Education is conducted in close collaboration with the healthcare sector and is well-grounded in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a broad field of experimental basic research, patient-oriented clinical research, and health sciences research. The Medical Faculty, with over 1,800 employees and 3,000 students in Lund, Malmö, and Helsingborg, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers, and researchers from around the world. The Department of Translational Medicine is one of six departments at Lund University's Medical Faculty. We conduct basic research in laboratory environments, patient-oriented and clinical research, and also conduct epidemiological studies. We decline all contacts from advertising sales companies, recruitment, and staffing agencies due to government procurement regulations.
