University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with diverse expertise. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. At the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge from molecule to human. The activities consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry. The Department of Clinical Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher, to be placed at the Section for Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. At the Section for Psychiatry and Neurochemistry at Sahlgrenska Academy, neurochemical research is focused on identifying and studying pathophysiology and pathological changes in neurodegenerative diseases. We offer a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment. Field of Research Biomarker research in neurodegenerative diseases Field Description The position is linked to the Swedish cohort study REAL AD, which validates a realistic screening method for early Alzheimer's disease and encompasses research on new and established biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease – fluid-based, imaging, and digital – in the general population. All projects are part of local, national, and international collaborations with interdisciplinary research groups led by world-leading researchers. Responsibilities The postdoctoral researcher will work on projects focusing on associations between new, digitalized methods for assessing cognition and blood-, cerebrospinal fluid-, and neuroradiological-based biomarkers for the disease's neuropathology, with the aim of detecting the earliest signs of Alzheimer's disease in the general population, based on a regional primary care infrastructure. Extensive longitudinal cognition and biomarker data are already available, complemented by register-based health-related participant data and data on sleep and viral infections. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to develop their own research projects and actively engage in writing and publishing scientific articles, presenting research at international conferences, and applying for external research funding. The position is fully funded. Qualifications Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's employment regulations. Eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher is someone who has completed a doctoral degree, artistic doctoral degree, or who holds a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. In the first instance, priority should be given to someone who completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Those who completed their degree earlier should also be prioritized in the first instance if there are special grounds. Eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher for this position is someone who holds a doctoral degree in statistics, neuroscience, computer science, medicine, or similar. Selection Criteria Basic requirements include very good understanding of statistics and biomarker analyses and modeling, experience with coding (Python/Matlab/R/Bash, etc.), excellent English language skills in speech and writing, experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, and knowledge of AI-/ML-based methods. We place great emphasis on collaboration skills and want to ensure that the successful candidate will be a proactive and productive member of our group; therefore, personal qualities and suitability will be given considerable weight. Employment The position is a fixed-term employment for 2 years, 100% full-time, placed until further notice at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement.
