We are now looking for two field assistants for Northern Inner City – one permanent position and one temporary contract until October 31, 2027.
The role of field assistant involves actively reaching out to children and young people both at youth centers, in schools, and in the field. You work in young people's environments and build trusting relationships to be an additional adult that young people can talk to and receive help and support from. Trusting relationships are an important part of field assistant work as we aim to prevent young people from becoming dependent on alcohol and drugs, engaging in crime, or falling into other destructive patterns.
The field assistants are part of the Preventive Interventions for Children, Youth and Families area within the social services department. This area also includes parenting advisors, youth center counselors, school social workers, family therapists, and youth centers/park recreation areas. The area's mission is to carry out early social work focusing on children, young people, and families.

Your role
In your role as a field assistant, you will work in an outreach and contact-building capacity with young people ages 12-19 both during day and evening hours. You work preventively and create a sense of security. You will conduct outreach through school visits, field work in places where young people gather, and you will also conduct classroom work on various themes and need to feel comfortable speaking to large groups.
You collaborate with schools, youth centers, police, social services, and others working with young people within the district as well as the city as a whole. Your role also includes leading groups in parental support programs and youth groups for preventive purposes and to promote good mental health. Part of your work time is scheduled for evenings according to a roster.
Your competence and experience
You need to:
• have a degree as a social worker or other university education that the employer deems equivalent. For the temporary contract, we also welcome applicants with equivalent other education such as social pedagogy.
• have current experience with outreach work with young people or other social work with young people.
• have good knowledge of youth issues, risk and protective factors, mental health, socially destructive behavior, drugs and their various harmful effects.
• have good collaboration skills and see the benefits of working in a team.
Meritorious experience includes:
• experience speaking to large groups.
• previous experience working with networking and group activities.
• experience with rePULSE, ACT, MVP, ABC Teen, Comet 12-18 years, healthy relationships, MI competence, LGBTQIA knowledge.
• good knowledge of risk and protective factors regarding children and young people.
• experience with authority work with children and young people.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability as well as you being professional, flexible, able to take own initiatives, goal-oriented, and relationship-building with good collaboration skills. Upon possible employment, you will need to present a certificate from the Police's criminal record register, which you order from their website, as well as your diploma.
