IT Department
The IT Department at SLU is seeking a senior network technician who wants to contribute to a sustainable, vibrant, and better world.
About the Position
SLU is currently making a major investment in building a modern infrastructure to support the important research, environmental analysis, and education taking place within our organization. Among all ongoing projects, the largest is the implementation of an entirely new Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN-based network. This solution, which replaces the current system, spans the entire country and enables smarter and more secure connectivity with built-in automation.
The new network will deliver secure, robust, and cost-effective services for everyone at SLU, whether it concerns researchers' IoT applications, satellite connections to SLU's research vessel R/V Svea, or an office user's print jobs.
The role of senior network technician involves
Working operationally on the design, planning, and troubleshooting of data center, WAN, and access networks
Responsibility for the network's design and further development
Responsibility for maintaining contact with the network's hardware and software vendors
Participating in and driving network-related projects together with the business
Translating network-related requirements into solution proposals
Qualifications
Academic education, preferably in systems science, computer science, or another engineering degree, or alternatively other education or experience that SLU deems relevant.
Several years of professional experience as a network technician or equivalent. Extensive experience with operational work on routing, switching, wireless networks, and network troubleshooting.
High competence in designing and implementing data center and access networks for larger organizations.
You communicate well in Swedish and English, both in writing and speech.
SLU has many different operational locations throughout the country, which means the position may involve travel. A B-category driver's license is therefore required.
Meritorious qualifications
Knowledge of Cisco DNA, SDA, SDN, SD-WAN, ACI, ISE, FTD, and Ansible experience
Experience in IT security work (highly meritorious)
Knowledge of automation within network technology
Previous experience as a consultant
Experience from working in public sector operations
Beyond the basic qualifications, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.
Who are you?
You are an experienced, driven, attentive, and curious network technician who wants to work with the latest technology. You are an engaged team player who enjoys supporting your colleagues. You have the ability to explain complex technology in a simple and educational manner, just as easily as you conduct an in-depth technical discussion with a vendor. As a person, you are also resourceful, innovative, self-motivated, and organized. You have a collaborative basic approach and are motivated by improvement work, and you are accustomed to working in project form.
