Do you speak North Sami? Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, and Sami are national minority languages in Sweden. Students who belong to one of the national minorities have the right to instruction in their mother tongue, regardless of whether it is a living language at home or not. This means the student has the right to study the language even if it is a beginner language. Umeå Municipality WANTS MORE when it comes to developing instruction in the national minority languages, with a particular focus on preschool and younger children. An extended development initiative is underway with the goal of finding successful language models for instruction in and through the national minority language for both first and second language speakers. We are now looking for you to help our students continue to develop their language, culture, and identity! Employment Form The position is a fixed-term part-time employment at 10%, with a planned start date of August 31, 2026, or by agreement until June 16, 2027 Your Responsibilities As a mother tongue teacher, you will instruct students from preschool class through grade 9 together with other mother tongue teachers. Instruction consists of 120 minutes per week and follows the Swedish curriculum. Your role may include the following tasks: Plan, implement, and follow up on instruction in the relevant language Assess and assign grades in accordance with applicable curricula Teach students in direct instruction Contribute to developing instruction based on our core values: language, culture, and identity Collaborate with colleagues within our Language Hub for National Minority Languages Instruction takes place at the student's home school from preschool class through grade 3. From grade 4 onward, instruction may be at another school – in which case we provide bus passes if needed. About You We are looking for someone who is creative, self-directed, and flexible, and who thrives in a dynamic work environment. You are curious and have a strong desire to both contribute to development and develop yourself. As a person, you build good relationships easily with students, parents, and colleagues. Additionally, you have good collaboration skills, are receptive, and can communicate and handle different situations in a constructive and solution-oriented manner. Requirements North Sami is your mother tongue, alternatively you have strong documented proficiency in speaking and writing Approved Swedish B/Swedish 2 Good digital proficiency Pedagogical education and/or pedagogical experience Valid extract from the criminal records registry, as required by the law on suitability screening Merits Knowledge of additional languages Please attach a CV and any personal letter written in Swedish, as well as any teaching credentials.
