Do you want to continue developing software while taking on greater responsibility for your team's technical direction and priorities? Here you'll combine both aspects – approximately half your time working hands-on with development and half in a more leadership-focused role for a software team in the defense industry. We're looking for someone with a few years of developer experience who feels that the next step isn't necessarily just writing more code. You want to stay close to the technology, but also have greater influence over what the team builds, how work is prioritized, and how the group develops together. About the role: You'll be part of a cross-functional engineering team developing software and test systems for advanced electronics. The software is used to test and verify that electronic products and systems work as intended, meaning you work closely with both software and hardware. The role is split approximately 50/50 between development and product ownership. As a developer, you'll continue working hands-on primarily in C, C++, and Java. At the same time, you'll have greater responsibility for helping the team prioritize, plan, and break down work, as well as create structure and momentum. You don't need prior Product Owner experience. The role suits someone who has accumulated a few years of developer experience and feels ready for the next step – without leaving programming behind. Responsibilities: In this role you will, among other things: • Develop software in C, C++, and Java • Work with software and test systems that verify electronics and hardware • Prioritize and plan the team's work • Break down technical requirements into clear development activities • Create structure and contribute to momentum in daily work • Collaborate with other technical disciplines • Contribute to technical decisions and long-term software development We're looking for you who: • Have a few years of professional software development experience and feel confident in C, C++, and/or Java. We'd like to see that you've worked close to hardware, electronics, or other physical products and thrive in environments where software and hardware interact. • Above all, we believe you're someone who naturally takes on a bit more responsibility than your title requires. Maybe you're the one who drives technical discussions forward, helps colleagues, takes ownership of a larger feature, or naturally creates structure in the team. We'd especially like to see: • Post-secondary education in areas such as computer engineering, software development, or electrical engineering • A few years of software development experience • Experience with C, C++, and/or Java • Experience developing software close to hardware or electronics • Interest in developing toward technical leadership A next step without leaving the technology: This is primarily an opportunity for you to start developing toward technical leadership without having to give up programming. You'll have clear responsibility for a software team while approximately half your time continues to consist of development. Long-term, there are good opportunities to develop further in areas such as product management, systems management, project management, or other technical leadership roles. About the position: This is a consulting assignment, which means you'll be employed by Friday and work as a consultant at our client.
