The Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development (NDH) operates at Campus Östersund and Campus Sundsvall, where we educate and conduct research within the department's subjects with a focus on sustainable development. At NDH, all of Mid Sweden University's artistic subjects are gathered: Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Photography. NDH is working to establish a research environment and research subject within design (NDH Design).
Job Responsibilities
NDH Design is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher who should primarily work within the research project "Design with Participation – older adults as requirement setters for more person- and user-centered assistive devices". The project aims to investigate in a Swedish context how assistive devices can be made more person- and user-centered based on older people with mobility and functional limitations and their lived experiences, needs, requirements and expectations of assistive devices. The focus is on investigating conditions for more person- and user-centered assistive device provision, where older people are not merely recipients but active requirement setters.
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the project group and participate in data collection and analysis. The work tasks will consist of conducting research activities such as interviews and workshops, analyzing collected material and participating in publishing results. Teaching and supervision, with a scope of up to 20%, may be included, primarily in design courses at basic level with Swedish as the language of instruction.
Active participation in the research environment and regular attendance at campus is expected within the scope of employment.
The postdoctoral researcher will also work on developing trigger material and other materials related to the workshops. The person we are seeking therefore needs to have a design background and be able to handle relevant software for the design field.
Qualifications
The person to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher must be qualified according to the requirements described in Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.
We are seeking a candidate with a doctoral degree in design or a related field that is relevant to the work tasks, preferably with specialization in design and interaction linked to assistive technology and assistive device use or similar fields.
Evaluation Criteria
The person we are seeking has a design background and can handle relevant software for the design field. Employment requires experience of working in research projects and administrative skills, very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, and good communication and collaboration skills.
Experience of collaboration in research and supervision at university level is a requirement. Competence in issues related to accessibility, participation and universal design linked to technology and design are important qualities to be able to make a significant contribution to the continued development of the design subject at research level at Mid Sweden University.
Also, competence in socially sustainable development, norms, norm criticism and norm creativity are important parts of the continued research development, as well as experience of method development within co-design and co-creation methods.
Personal Qualities
In addition to the relevant teaching and subject knowledge required, great emphasis is placed on independence, initiative, social competence and good ability to plan and structure your work.
