You thrive in a role where you can combine independent work with collaboration and where you need to balance service with regulatory authority. You have the ability to make factual assessments, communicate clearly, be structured and thorough, and have an eye for detail. You are curious, solution-oriented, and want to contribute to the development of both supervision and the group's common working methods. To succeed in the role, you need to be comfortable meeting with both companies, residents, and other authorities. You also need to be able to handle cases where there are sometimes different expectations, strong opinions, or a need for clear regulatory guidance. The role includes, among other things: planning and conducting supervision according to the Environmental Code, handling complaints and incoming environmental matters, conduct site visits and inspections, review companies' self-monitoring, assess environmental risks and need for measures, write inspection reports, decisions, and directives, follow up that decided measures are implemented, provide clear information and guidance to business operators and residents, contribute to supervision planning, needs assessment, and activity follow-up, participate in developing procedures, templates, and digital working methods. About the Operation Do you want to work broadly with environmental supervision while also being part of developing the future of work methods within municipal regulatory authority? We are now recruiting an environmental inspector for the building and environment department with a focus on general environmental supervision. With us you get an important role in an operation where legal security, service, environmental benefit, and social development meet. You become part of an environmental group that works with supervision according to the Environmental Code and that has close cooperation with building permits, planning, technical operations, and other parts of the municipality. We are looking for someone who wants to work in a broad and varied role where you both get to handle your own cases, conduct supervision, meet with business operators, and contribute to developing our common working methods. As an environmental inspector with us, you will work with general environmental supervision according to the Environmental Code. The role covers both planned supervision and event-driven cases. You will handle complaints, conduct inspections, review self-monitoring, and follow up that operations comply with legislative requirements. The work may for example include supervision of less environmentally hazardous activities, waste management, chemicals, disturbances, emissions, self-monitoring, and other environmental issues that arise within the municipality's supervisory responsibility. The role is broad and an important part of the work group. You will contribute to cases being handled efficiently, supervision becoming more systematic, and our assessments becoming clear and consistent. There is also an opportunity in the long term to develop towards greater responsibility within some area of environmental protection, depending on your experience, competence, and the operation's needs. You get to work closely with colleagues in environment, building permits, planning, and technical operations, and contribute to clear, legally secure, and efficient processes. We are in a development phase where digitalization, new working methods, and increased systematicity in supervision are important parts. This means that you not only get to work with ongoing cases, but also be part of influencing how we develop the operation going forward. Qualifications Requirements: relevant education in environment and health protection or equivalent education, knowledge of the Environmental Code, good ability to express yourself in speech and writing, good administrative ability, B-driver's license, interest in municipal supervision and regulatory authority. Meritorious: experience with municipal environmental supervision, good understanding of working in a politically governed organization, experience with handling according to the Environmental Code, experience with supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, experience with complaint handling, experience with waste, chemicals, or self-monitoring, experience with case handling systems in the environmental field, experience with or interest in individual wastewater treatment systems, interest in developing over time towards a clearer role in review and supervision of individual wastewater treatment facilities. Nykvarns Municipality is a Finnish administrative area and we consider it meritorious if you speak Finnish. For this position you must have a B-driver's license.
