We're looking for someone who can both turn and mill - in CNC and manually - and who enjoys finding solutions to everything from simple to more advanced tasks. We don't always have a drawing as a guide.
With us, the entire chain is under one roof: design basis, cutting operations, sheet metal, welding and assembly, all in the same 700 kvm in Uppsala. This means you see what the component you're running is actually supposed to become. We manufacture everything from precision mechanical components for the pharmaceutical and process industry to wear parts for asphalt plants.
In August, we invested in new machine capacity: 6 kW fiber laser, new ADIRA press brake, rolling machine, sheet metal shear and tube notcher. We don't stand still.
About the role
You'll work with turning and milling in both CNC-controlled and manual machines. Runs are rarely long; much of our work involves individual parts, prototypes and small series with customer-unique designs. This means you change setups frequently, think for yourself and find your own solutions to both simple and more advanced problems.
There's extensive experience in machining and design within the company, which makes it easier when you need to bounce ideas around or discuss alternative solutions.
This is a full-time position. We offer permanent employment with an initial probationary period.
We're looking for you if you
Have education in cutting operations or equivalent
Have experience with turning and milling, both CNC and manual
Are self-directed and take responsibility for your work from start to finished component
Have good blueprint reading skills
Are a problem solver - resourceful when needed
Merits:
B-class driver's license
Experience with welding
Experience with cutting machines, preferably laser cutting
Experience with assembly
None of the points under merits are requirements. But the broader your skills, the more of the chain you can follow, and that's how most people here have grown.

About UMB Mekaniska
UMB Mekaniska was founded in 1997 and is a complete machine shop in Uppsala. We work with machining, mechanical manufacturing, licensed welding, sheet metal processing, forging, industrial service and assembly — from 3D model to finished construction on-site at the customer's location. The shop is certified according to ISO 3834-2 and SS EN1090-1
We are part of Kiefer System Group and the Nordic industrial group Sertion. That gives us the muscle to take on large contracts, but day-to-day operations are run from here, from Uppsala.
