Approximately 41 people work at the department, with the majority being professors, lecturers, and doctoral students. The department is responsible for the social work degree program, master's programs, doctoral education, and research in social work. The department will also teach social work in the police program starting at Uppsala University in Spring 2027. The department is in an expansive phase and therefore needs to recruit additional lecturers. This position is based in Uppsala. Social work is both a professional practice and the scientific discipline that forms the knowledge base of social workers. The social work degree program is a generalist education that provides broad knowledge in social work as well as scientific theory and method. The studies aim to educate social workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to work within the social work practice field. Concepts such as the individual, well-being, social welfare, help and support, and life context are central to the education, and a holistic view of the human being is emphasized. This university lectureship is a joint appointment between Uppsala University and Akademiska sjukhuset. Academic Duties The academic position, comprising 2/3 of the total position, includes primarily teaching, examination, research, and administration. Teaching is mainly at undergraduate and advanced levels, but teaching at the doctoral level and commissioned education may occur. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration and course development, and supervision. The focus of the position concerns social work, with particular emphasis on social perspectives that have a direct connection to the social work profession and its practice. Teaching will also include other components within the department's educational areas at undergraduate and advanced levels based on the applicant's competence and the department's needs. Duties also include actively applying for external research funding and following developments within the field and broader societal developments that have relevance to teaching at the university and the Department of Social Work. The lecturer is expected to actively contribute to the department's development in both education and research as well as collaboration with the social work field. Clinical Duties The clinical position, comprising 1/3 of the total position, is located at Akademiska sjukhuset in the Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center unit. Duties include, in addition to patient work, integrating evidence-based knowledge in social work services and in practice-based education for social work students and students in the health and medical care social work program. The duties also involve supporting and motivating colleagues in clinical development work and other assignments relevant to social workers' work at the hospital. A particular focus for the clinical work will be directed toward cancer and cancer rehabilitation. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, one must have earned a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence, demonstrated pedagogical skill, have the ability to collaborate, and otherwise meet the suitability requirements needed to perform the duties well. Furthermore, applicants must have experience in clinical work as a hospital social worker. For this position, a degree in social work is a qualification requirement. The pedagogical skill, scientific competence, and professional skill must be relevant to the subject content of the position, social work with focus on the social work profession and its practice, and the duties included in the position.
