Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm (KMH) is Sweden's only independent state university for higher music education. KMH educates approximately 1,200 students annually at the highest international level within educational programs including folk music, jazz, classical music, conducting, composition, music production, and various teacher education programs with a music focus. KMH also conducts research and doctoral education in music and music pedagogy, and participates in extensive artistic and pedagogical research and development projects in Sweden and internationally. KMH hereby announces a position as Lecturer in Orchestra Conducting at the Department of Composition, Conducting, and Music Theory. Start date: Fall semester 2027 or by agreement. The position is fixed-term for 3 years on an artistic basis (with possibility of extension) and comprises 40%. Description of the Subject Area KMH offers Sweden's only bachelor's program in conducting with a specialization in orchestra. We are now seeking a lecturer with an excellent ability to inspire engagement and interest in the subject. Duties Teaching, supervision, and examination of students in the artistic bachelor's program in conducting and, where applicable, students in church music and teacher education programs. Teaching takes place in Swedish and English. Academic year planning of the program as well as administration and development of collaborations within KMH and with external parties including internship projects. Active participation and contribution to artistic, theoretical, and pedagogical development within the field of orchestra conducting. Active participation in KMH's and the Department's internal work, including meetings, development projects, admission examinations, and orchestra projects. Administrative tasks such as academic director responsibilities may occur. Engagement with the surrounding society, primarily the country's orchestras. Qualifications and Other Requirements To be eligible for employment as a lecturer in artistic activity, one must demonstrate pedagogical skill and either have earned a doctoral degree, or possess equivalent artistic competence, or have other professional skills of significance in relation to the position's subject content and work duties. Artistic skill must be demonstrated through artistic practice at least at the national high level and the ability to develop and lead artistic activities of high quality. Pedagogical skill must be demonstrated through well-documented teaching and/or supervision at both basic and advanced levels as well as the ability to develop, lead, and conduct education of high quality. To perform the duties of this position, the applicant must also have: Administrative skill. Strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English. Good collaboration skills and the ability to motivate and inspire students in their learning. Meritorious Experience with and knowledge of the Swedish higher education system. Higher education pedagogy course of 10 weeks or equivalent to 15 credits. Evaluation Criteria When selecting among qualified applicants, artistic and pedagogical skill will be weighted equally.
