Department of Clinical Sciences The Equine Department together with the Veterinary Nursing Program is now seeking a licensed veterinary nurse with an interest in clinical work and equine anesthesia, as well as teaching. About the job You will work clinically as a nurse in the Equine Department and with teaching within the Veterinary Nursing Program with a focus on equine medicine. Your duties will include, among other things, receiving acute patients together with veterinarians, patient care in the ward, assisting in examinations, ward hygiene, preparing and caring for patients before and after surgery, and other common tasks at an equine clinic. After an introductory period, you will also work with anesthesia. We work in teams - nurses and veterinarians. Teaching takes place both as clinical skills training and work-based education for veterinary nursing and veterinary students at the clinic, as well as lectures, exercises, examinations, supervision of written assignments, and administrative work related to courses as part of the teaching team. All employees in the Equine Department work under a roster agreement, which means that work can be scheduled at any time of day or night. Your background We are looking for you who are a licensed veterinary nurse with a bachelor's degree, with an interest in equine medicine and anesthesia. It is a merit to have experience with anesthesia and teaching, preferably at university level, as well as training in pedagogy. As a person, you are responsible, structured, and organized. You are flexible, with a strong interest in developing yourself and others. You have good communication and social skills, with an interest in pedagogy. You understand the importance of maintaining good customer relations and treating animal owners in a professional manner. You contribute to a positive work environment and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. You should also be able to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English. You are a team player who prioritizes the Equine Department's overall operations over your own unit and can see the bigger picture. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. About us At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced veterinary medicine go hand in hand. We educate tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care to companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also share knowledge with the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of veterinary medicine. Under one roof, qualified healthcare for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals is offered. In addition to modern, activity-adapted facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. The UDS operations also include an ambulatory clinic that visits stables and farms to examine and treat horses and farm animals. The Equine Department receives approximately 5,000 horses annually. We currently have about 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which has approximately 340 employees. The department currently has three units: Polyclinic with orthopedic and medical cases, farrier services, specialist clinics for respiration, dentistry, dermatology, and ophthalmology. The ward unit with both surgical and medical patients. And an operating unit with both scheduled and emergency surgeries. The Equine Department receives patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
