Do you want to lead a vibrant church close to people – with clear roles, sustainability, and strong commitment?
With us, you'll meet a parish with stable finances, engaged staff, and a church council that wants to create good conditions for sustainable leadership.
We are looking for a parish priest who wants to steward what we have built and lead us forward through changes in the world around us, together with staff, volunteers, and elected representatives.
We have a solid foundation to stand on with good collaboration with elected representatives, engaged parish councils and staff, as well as stable finances. We know that clarity in responsibility and mandate is crucial to prevent gray zones. That's why we actively work with clear responsibility distribution between the parish priest, church council, and unit heads, as well as regular check-ins between the parish priest and the chair of the church council.
You will have the mandate to lead operations and employer matters in a professional manner, supported by expertise in finance and administration.
About the Position
As a parish priest, you lead the parish's activities according to church regulations. The assignment comprises three parts: spiritual leadership (worship life, teaching, diaconal work and mission), employer responsibility (organization, working environment and personnel), and strategic leadership (long-term development, finances and collaboration). You are also part of the parish's worship and congregational life and participate in its activities.
You lead through others. You are supported by a management team with responsible heads for children's and diaconal work, administration, facilities and burial services. We want leadership to be characterized by common working methods for decisions, follow-up and communication, not parallel decision-making paths. Clear delegations and a functioning management structure are a prerequisite for the assignment.
Your role includes:
lead and develop the parish's activities and organization based on the assignment
work closely with the church council and other elected representatives, with clear role and responsibility distribution
be responsible for employer matters and systematic workplace environment work, and ensure sustainable working methods
provide direction and support to unit heads and follow up on goals, finances and operations
be visible and present in the parish's life, worship services and meeting places
You will be manager for about 30 employees.
Our Vision and Direction
We want to be a present and relevant church in people's everyday lives through worship, music, diaconal work, children's and youth activities, and meeting places for faith and life.
Particularly important areas for us are:
family diaconal work and intergenerational meeting places
children and young people
sustainability in social, economic and ecological terms
a working life where people can work long-term and sustainably
We believe in leadership where people grow through participation, clarity and trust.
We Are Looking for You
You are a secure and stable leader with personal maturity, good self-awareness, and the ability to build trust. You thrive in the interplay between parish priest, elected representatives, staff and congregational life, and you are clear about roles, responsibilities and decisions.
You lead with a holistic perspective and can create structure and direction even when the world around us changes. You start by getting to know the parish and managing what works well, then gradually develop together with others.
You have the courage to tackle difficult issues, make decisions and hold on to what needs to be held, with respect for the parish's identity, traditions and context.

About Us
Gagnef Parish is located in the heart of Dalarna where Västerdalälven and Österdalälven meet and form Dalälven. Here tradition and future also meet.
The parish consists of three congregations: Gagnef, Mockfjärd and Floda. We have a rich congregational life with worship services, music, diaconal work and activities for all ages – and a strong presence among children and young people in one of Sweden's most child-rich municipalities. Just under 70 percent of the municipality's residents are members of the Church of Sweden.
With us, there is strong commitment to the region, culture and the people who live here. We want to be a church that both carries tradition and dares to develop.
We Offer
a solid foundation to build on: good finances and engaged congregational life
elected representatives who want clear roles, good collaboration and regular dialogue
the opportunity to influence and develop activities long-term
a vibrant cultural region with proximity to nature and strong local identity
Application
This is a permanent full-time position with start date by agreement.
Welcome to submit your application no later than September 13. In Varbi, you will also answer a few short selection questions related to the assignment and your leadership. Your application must also include a certificate from your qualifying education.
The next step in the process is selection and a first interview round, preliminary during week 39.
