The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) works toward a society free from discrimination and ensures that those who have experienced discrimination receive redress. DO is now recruiting a unit head for the Legal Unit who wants to contribute to our important work. We are looking for a skilled legal professional and experienced manager with strong leadership qualities who wants to lead and develop the authority's legal unit. As head of the Legal Unit, you will oversee five section heads, lead the legal unit's management group, participate in the authority's management group, and report directly to the Ombudsman/authority director.
Your responsibilities
As head of the Legal Unit, you are responsible for leading and developing the unit's operations and ensuring legal quality. In your role as unit head, you report directly to the Ombudsman/authority director. The breadth and complexity of DO's mission requires leadership characterized by curiosity, humility, strong collaboration skills, and a holistic perspective. You will participate in the authority's management group and are expected to contribute to the implementation of DO's mission, vision, and strategic long-term goals in cooperation with the Ombudsman and other unit heads.
As unit head, you will lead operations through five section heads who have personnel responsibility and operational responsibility for their respective sections. In your leadership, you should create favorable conditions for section heads to fulfill their tasks and responsibilities. You should also promote a good work environment and professional cooperation between sections and within the authority. As unit head, you have personnel responsibility for the section heads and overall responsibility for operations and budget for the unit. You lead the legal unit's management group where you and the section heads participate.
Requirements
We are looking for you as a qualified legal professional with
- a Swedish law degree, an equivalent older degree, or legal education recognized as equivalent to a Swedish law degree
- current judicial training from a general court or administrative court, or alternatively a couple of years of other current experience in qualified legal work that DO considers equivalent
- relevant experience leading and developing operations as a manager within an organization
- documented excellent leadership qualities
- excellent communication skills
- excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
You must also have excellent ability to
- conduct and assess thorough legal analyses and have a comprehensive understanding of entire legal areas
- analyze and assess complex information and make strategic assessments based on operational needs
- work to find solutions that benefit operations and the authority's mission as a whole and be responsive to operational needs
- create structure and coordinate and prioritize various operational matters relating to both the unit's and the authority's areas of responsibility
- build trust and be secure and unpretentious
- collaborate, build good relationships, and create a positive work environment
- lead, inspire, motivate, and develop others
- communicate clearly and provide feedback
- treat people with respect and demonstrate high integrity
It is meritorious if you have
- experience leading through managers
- knowledge in discrimination law
- current experience working with supervisory activities
- current experience working with procedural law and dispute resolution
- knowledge of EU law and human rights
