Job Responsibilities As a school counselor, you are part of the school's student welfare team and contribute psychological and social expertise at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student welfare, you collaborate with the school nurse, special educator, school psychologist, school physician, and assistant principal. The team's mission is to work together with the principal and teaching staff to promote health and prevent problems in order to strengthen children and young people's opportunities to achieve their goals. You will also be part of the school district's counselor team with three counselors. Your job responsibilities include, for example, participating in the school's ongoing values and safety work, support conversations, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and group/class interventions. You also collaborate with external actors such as social services, rehabilitation services, UPH, and BUP. Together with the school's teaching staff, students, school leadership, and guardians, you contribute to creating conditions for optimal learning for each student. Within the primary school administration, you participate in professional meetings once a month with counselor colleagues and professional development specialists, and you participate in external supervision. As a new school counselor, you will also receive an introduction and a mentor. School counselors in the Primary School Administration are guided by a common job description. Qualifications We are now looking for someone who wishes to work at the upper secondary level and has experience working as a counselor with special responsibility for the oldest students in both regular and adapted primary education. Experience working in a multicultural environment is also desirable. We are looking for someone who has a degree in social work or other higher education that the employer considers equivalent. You have good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act, and the ability to express yourself well in speech and writing, as you will document your work in PMO. You also prioritize your efforts together with the principal and the rest of the student welfare team. The professional role requires a high degree of independence, collaboration skills, and personal maturity. You are comfortable working with complex issues, see possibilities, and are creative.
