About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar is expanding and currently has several ongoing projects and new establishments ahead. Establishment of a Category 3 prison, a new remand facility with the goal of opening in 2027, and a new correctional facility expected to be completed in 2030. The expansion creates great opportunities and multiple new employees within various professional categories will need to be recruited in the coming years. Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. Work tasks in prisons/remand facilities vary: care, supervision, search, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work in prisons and remand facilities is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be held on remand for extended periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and remand facility staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference in people's lives and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane approach to people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's capacity for development. You will begin your employment at your assigned workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training, which covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane approach to people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your approach to ensuring that everyone is treated equitably. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We seek candidates with: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Prison and Probation Service considers relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written Good computer skills Class B driver's license It is also advantageous to have: Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care services Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to eliminate the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
