About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. About the Workplace The Mariestad operational area comprises the open prison Rödjan, the closed prison Johannesberg, and Mariestad Jail. Mariestad currently has approximately 400 employees distributed across various professional categories and skill sets. With new construction projects, particularly in the Rödjan area, we are seeking personnel to staff both Sweden's largest open prison and an upcoming new closed prison. Job Description As a correctional officer in Mariestad, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients in jail or prison. Working at a jail focuses on care and security and is a job with clear procedures. Some people are held in jail for extended periods and only see their lawyer and those who work at the jail. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working at a prison is varied: care, supervision, search, and security work are combined with release planning as well as counseling and motivational work. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You begin your employment at the workplace where you receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and comprises 8 weeks. You will receive pay during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your potential for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group membership affect you and others. Furthermore, your attitude is expected to contribute to everyone being treated fairly. We are seeking candidates who have: Complete upper secondary school education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written Good computer skills It is also an advantage to have: Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work Knowledge within relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter requirement and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
