Position Description Kumla Prison is a facility with approximately 721 beds in security class 1 for men. The prison is located on the outskirts of Kumla. Job Responsibilities Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society? As a correctional officer in a prison, you are the foundation of security work. You work in a team with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure operation and to motivate clients toward a life without crime. Daily work includes locking and unlocking residential units, facility inspections and monitoring, as well as client conversations and release preparations. The role of correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with risk assessment and security awareness as the focus. The work is varied and there are many opportunities for development for those seeking continued employment. It is important that you share the Swedish Correctional Service's core values of a humanistic view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. An employment as a correctional officer at Kumla Prison may involve you working on all departments such as regular units, psychiatric and care units, and the surveillance center. Placement on a special unit for clients under 18 years old may also be relevant. The focus will be on creating safe environments that promote reintegration into society with activities such as school, student support services, work programs, and leisure activities suited to age. Otherwise, the child's rights during the sentence shall be guaranteed in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through client-focused work, we create meaningful activities in an otherwise adult and security-oriented environment. The probationary employment begins with a three-week introduction at Kumla Prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you should begin the Swedish Correctional Service's mandatory basic training. The training comprises eight weeks and takes place during paid work hours. Assessment occurs continuously before the probationary period converts to permanent employment after six months. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required. We are looking for you who have: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Correctional Service deems relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing Good computer skills It is also advantageous to have: Work experience from the correctional service, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care services Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Work experience working with children and young people within social services, the State Institutions Board (SiS), schools, or other organizations that the Swedish Correctional Service deems relevant Experience working with children and young people who have neurodevelopmental variations (NPF) Experience working with young people Relevant language skills Category B driver's license Work Schedule: Shift: Monday - Sunday.
