About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and inmate transportation. The Fosie operational area consists of Fosie Prison, located on the outskirts of Malmö and built in 1986. Operations are constantly evolving, and a remand facility is expected to open in fall/winter 2026. Currently, the prison has 173 places for male inmates in security class 2, managed by approximately 300 employees and 10 managers who oversee, lead, and develop operations. When the remand facility opens, there will be 56 places for remand prisoners and 101 prison places for men. Job Description As a correctional officer, you work in a team with other professions to maintain a safe and secure facility and motivate clients toward a life without crime. The role of correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with risk assessment and security awareness as focus areas. Your daily work includes locking and unlocking residential units, inspections of premises, and supervision, as well as conducting conversations and preparing inmates for release. The work is varied and offers many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. The probationary period begins with three weeks of local orientation at the prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule your participation in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training. The training encompasses eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Evaluations are conducted continuously, and the probationary period transitions to a permanent position after six months. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the facility's operations, so you need good collaboration skills and clear communication. You must be able to act physically when required. We are looking for candidates who have: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment Good Swedish language skills in both speech and writing Good computer skills Class B driver's license It is also meritorious to have: Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care services Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Experience in educational work, for example from schools, sports activities, associations, or similar Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
