Would you like to contribute to preserving one of Sweden's most significant collections of modern and contemporary art? Moderna Museet is seeking a painting conservator who wants to be part of developing the work of caring for and making art accessible for future generations. Role Description and Responsibilities As a conservator, you will be an important part of the museum's work ensuring that the museum can conduct exhibition and loan activities, manage and care for new acquisitions, and work to preserve paintings in the museum's collection. Your responsibilities will include: - Examining and assessing the condition of paintings. - Planning and carrying out practical conservation treatments. - Working with preventive conservation, including climate monitoring, light control, pest management, and safe handling of artworks. - Serving as the responsible conservator for exhibition productions, loans, transports, and installations, including traveling as a courier. - Preparing reports and documentation according to professional standards. - Advising colleagues on preservation and handling of the collection. - Examining, documenting, and performing conservation measures for new acquisitions. - Registration and documentation in the museum's collections management system (TMS Collections) and reporting system (Dinspector). - Contributing to the development of procedures and standards within collections management, such as conservation, registration, storage, and handling of artworks. The role is placed within the Department of Conservation and Digital Collections Management and you report to the group head. The work group consists of nine conservators specializing in photography, painting, paper, and sculpture. From January 1, 2026, the operations of Arkdes and the Swedish National Art Council are part of Moderna Museet. During the coming period, the work will be characterized by change and new thinking, which you are expected to contribute to. Who Are You? We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. As a conservator, you need to be persistent and self-directed in your tasks while being flexible and able to adapt when circumstances change. You are quality-conscious and can structure work tasks efficiently. You maintain your specialist knowledge and serve as a knowledge resource in various contexts. Of course, you work well in collaboration and communication with others. To be successful in the role, you also need to have: - A university or college degree in conservation with a focus on painting. - Several years of current experience working as a painting conservator after completing your education, preferably from a museum, gallery, or conservation studio. - Experience performing conservation treatments on paintings and good knowledge of different treatment options, underlying ethics, and reasoning. - Good knowledge of current analytical methods. - Good knowledge of important aspects of preventive conservation in a museum environment, such as climate and light monitoring, IPM, storage standards. - Practical experience with documentation, mounting, and framing of art. - Experience working in M365, Sharepoint, Teams (or equivalent systems). - Good skills in both spoken and written Swedish and/or one of the Scandinavian languages as well as in English. It is advantageous if you have: - Experience working at a museum and with contemporary art. - Experience with the systems Dinspector for reports and TMS for collections registration. - Experience with research projects or publications within conservation. Location Moderna Museet is located on Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm. Employment Type and Start Date The employment is permanent, full-time with a six-month probationary period.
