Our department employs over 1,000 employees across five different operations: Property, Streets and Parks, Digital Transformation & IT, Meal Service, and Cleaning and Facility Services. We plan, build, and manage properties, roads, and outdoor environments. We provide transportation services and handle internal assignments so that the municipality's operations function smoothly. For example, we ensure that the IT environment works and is secure, that our facilities are kept clean, and that the municipality's schools and care facilities can serve healthy meals. Meal Service in Umeå Municipality encompasses the preparation and serving of lunches in both primary and secondary schools, gymnasiums, restaurants, and to several units within elder care. Our task is to provide good service and nutritious, healthy meals to our diners and, together with staff in schools and care services, create an understanding of the importance of food for good health and well-being. Through public meal service, we contribute to good public health and sustainable development. Berghemsskolan is an F–6 school with approximately 250 students. Adjacent to the school restaurant is a preschool with four departments and Umeå's night-time preschool, to which we deliver meals daily. Our newly renovated and well-equipped kitchen creates excellent conditions for inspiring work. The school is an appropriate size, with happy children, engaged educators, and close collaboration around our diners' well-being, health, and meal experiences. Your Responsibilities As a chef, you are responsible for leading and planning the kitchen work so that it functions satisfactorily, in accordance with Meal Service's operational plan and policy documents. When needed, you will also cover other kitchens. You will, among other things: Prepare good and nutritious food: breakfast, lunch, and snacks including special diets. Place orders for raw materials and consumables according to procurement procedures. Plan daily kitchen work. Handle dishwashing and cleaning according to self-control routines. Work hours are scheduled daytime, Monday–Friday. About You To succeed and thrive as a chef with us, you are responsible, organized, and have genuine passion for food. You have good collaboration skills and contribute to a positive work environment, while also being able to independently plan and carry out your work. Furthermore, you are flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to handle occasionally high work pace without compromising on quality, hygiene, and safety. Good service is a given for you, and you want to offer healthy choices to our most important guests and encourage them to try new flavors and experiences. We place great importance on personal suitability. Requirements Chef training or equivalent experience. Several years of experience working as a chef. Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, to ensure safe and clear communication with students and colleagues. Valid criminal record extract, as required by the suitability assessment law. Meritorious Experience working in public kitchens. Heavy lifting is part of the job.
