Sweden's most beautiful workplace is seeking a Cartography Engineer with placement in Norrköping Job Responsibilities As a cartography engineer, you will work on quality improvement of our nautical chart database. You will be part of Hydrographic Data, a group within the Maritime Geography business area. Your main responsibilities include maintaining the nautical chart database by incorporating hydrographic survey results and updating other nautical and geographical information relevant for navigation. You will also perform product extraction and delivery of electronic nautical charts to ensure that newly added information reaches our customers. Your tasks include extensive cartography and data generalization to create clear and legible nautical charts with safe maritime navigation as the focus. Most of the work is performed in the GIS software CARIS HPD, which is our primary production system, and the information you handle is largely governed by international standards. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our production systems and work methods. This could involve participating in automation of recurring tasks, development of new features, or supporting system management of our tools and workflows. This is an opportunity for you to combine chart production with technical problem-solving and contribute to more efficient and modern nautical chart production. You work independently while maintaining extensive dialogue and collaboration with your colleagues regarding routines, improvement work, cartography, and proofreading. Maritime geographical information is a central part of the Swedish Maritime Administration's work for an efficient and sustainable maritime transport system. We are, like the rest of the Swedish Maritime Administration, ISO-certified and work according to established processes and routine descriptions. Who Are You? We are looking for someone with at least a three-year university degree in geographical information systems. You have practical experience working with modern GIS software, such as ArcGIS or equivalent. You must be fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, as our manuals and instructions are available in both languages and some external communication occurs in English. It is advantageous if you have experience with the following: Work experience in chart production Editing in geographical databases System development, for example Python, XML-based formats, API integrations Working with workflows in the FME software Improvement work and methodology development It is also advantageous if you have nautical experience as a recreational sailor and hold a skipper or coastal skipper certificate. You have good analytical abilities and complete your work within set timeframes. You collaborate in a responsive and communicative manner and are good at both giving and receiving constructive feedback.
