Description
Karlstad University offers a leading role in an organization with an important mission to society. We are now seeking a University Director who wants to help develop the university's administrative support and governance with a focus on creating the best possible conditions for education, research, and collaboration.
The role of University Director involves long-term strategic work combined with daily operations in an organization where many stakeholders have different perspectives. As University Director, you lead the university's central support functions, participate in the university's central management, and are the Rector's closest colleague on administrative matters. You are responsible for ensuring that support functions develop, work efficiently and professionally, with clear direction and focus on providing the organization with the best possible conditions. As University Director, you also handle the preparation of matters for the Rector and University Board. Budget and operational planning processes are other important parts of the work. You will represent the university in local, regional, and national contexts.
The central support functions include 10 departments and approximately 300 employees. Department heads report to the University Director. The University Director also has direct management responsibility for the Executive Office with 15 employees.
Qualifications
We seek someone with several years of experience in qualified management work in large and complex knowledge organizations. You have experience managing through managers and have successfully driven development within administrative operations. A good understanding of public sector operations, its conditions and governance, preferably with experience from academia or another state agency, is a prerequisite for succeeding in this role. You also need to be able to communicate fluently in both Swedish and English in your work.
As a leader, you are action-oriented, proactive, and confident in making decisions even when conditions are not entirely clear. Your leadership is characterized by trust, clarity, and participation. You have good judgment, the ability to develop strong collaborations, and can create a positive climate for change. To contribute to a good work environment and organizational development, you are present and participate in daily work and the community.
Terms of Employment
The employment is a permanent position on a full-time basis with start date March 1, 2027 or by agreement.
