Are you the one we're looking for? Right now we're looking for an additional team member for our workshop. Work as a canal repairperson is very diverse. Part of the year involves carpentry and construction work, while other parts of the year consist more of property maintenance and boat locking. Our workplace is over 150 years old, as are our locks and canal. If you enjoy working to preserve historic buildings and facilities, this could be for you. The work is physically demanding and requires good fitness. But it's a free and rewarding job. Work tasks include: · Renovation and new construction of lock facilities · Renovation of lock keeper residences · Tree and brush clearing · Boat locking – including Saturday work during pre- and off-season · Installation of sea markers · Documentation of maintenance work Who are you? · You enjoy preserving an historic cultural environment · You enjoy working with different types of tasks · You're willing to get your hands dirty · You enjoy working outdoors · You enjoy meeting people · You're resourceful and see solutions to things that don't always have easy answers We also think it's good if you possess certain skills such as · Ability to handle tools and machinery · Technical knowledge and interest · Basic computer skills We value attitude and approach more than having all the skills in place.
