Junior Legal Counsel in Defense Intelligence
Would you like to work on an interesting and important assignment at a small government agency undergoing development?
The State Inspection of Defense Intelligence Activities (Siun) is seeking a junior legal counsel.
Siun is a small government agency that oversees defense intelligence operations conducted by the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Armed Forces Radio Service, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, and the Total Defense Research Institute to ensure they are conducted lawfully. Siun also supervises, through a special decision-making body—the Committee for Control upon Request of Individuals—whether individuals have been subject to unlawful signals intelligence.
Siun is led by a board that makes the agency's decisions. Siun's office supports the board's work.
About the Role
As a legal counsel at Siun, you will participate in the agency's oversight activities and, together with your colleagues in the office, prepare inspections at the defense intelligence authorities. You will conduct and present inspection preparations, legal investigations, and propose draft decisions. You will also investigate inquiries from individuals regarding whether they have been subject to unlawful signals intelligence as part of the Committee's work. The agency's administrative law responsibilities are also part of your role.
This work involves many interactions with both legal professionals and other professionals, and the role requires that you actively develop and maintain sustainable relationships and conduct yourself in a way that creates confidence and trust with both colleagues and external contacts.
Siun is currently in a development phase where a data and analysis-focused oversight function is being established, which means that in the long term you will have the opportunity to work with both legal professionals and colleagues with other expertise in oversight work. You will then contribute to transforming complex information into clear insights and decision-making materials, where your ability to understand new contexts will be put to good use. You will be part of a varied and different work that is both independent and cross-functional, requiring collaboration with colleagues across several areas of expertise.
Travel within and outside Sweden may occur.
