About Us
At the Intensive Care Unit and Postoperative Care Ward East (ICU/PostOp), we care for critically ill patients requiring advanced treatment and careful monitoring due to vital organ failure, severe sepsis, post-cardiac arrest care, respiratory failure, and other serious and/or life-threatening conditions. The patient population is unique in its variety and reflects the different clinical areas at Östra Hospital: Surgery, which conducts advanced abdominal surgery with several national assignments; Infectious Diseases including Tropical Medicine; Medicine; Psychiatry; Scandinavia's largest maternity unit; and the Hyperbaric Chamber, which provides 24-hour standby for hyperbaric medical treatment.
We also provide advanced postoperative care with several different patient groups, including those from surgery and women's health.
The Intensive Care Unit currently has eight ICU beds and approximately 120 employees. Our new facilities are expected to be completed in 2028 and will expand operations to an intensive care unit with 14 beds. Additionally, a new hyperbaric chamber will be built adjacent to the unit.
An/Op/ICU East also includes two Operating Departments, a Pain Center, the Hyperbaric Chamber, a Complex Fatigue Clinic, a Prehospital Intensive Care Unit (PIV), and Swedish Air Ambulance (KSA). Within the operational area, continuous development and education work is conducted, along with extensive research encompassing both clinical studies and laboratory-based basic research.
We can offer a varied and exciting workplace with a unique variety of patients whom we provide with the best possible care and nursing through teamwork.
We view rotation positions positively, as we believe they contribute to development and enrich the unit with multiple perspectives.
About the Job
As an intensive care nurse with us, you work in a team with nursing assistants and physicians. You are responsible for the daily care of 1 to 2 ICU patients. Upon hiring, we offer comprehensive orientation tailored to your previous experience and needs.
We strive for a work environment where you as an employee feel safe, seen, and appreciated for your work. It is important to us that, despite the serious nature of our operations, you enjoy coming to work. With us, the work environment is something we create together every day. We value an open climate where everyone has a voice, where we support each other in challenging situations, and where it is natural to ask for help and share your knowledge.
We implement mentorship with group reflection during the first year to increase confidence and provide mutual support. Our mentors are experienced intensive care nurses.
Education and continuous learning are important to us. We are careful to offer training opportunities both internally and externally. Simulation is also an important part of developing and enriching the unit, which also promotes team building.
About You
You are a licensed nurse with specialist education in intensive care.
Previous experience in intensive care and/or acute care is advantageous, and we preferably see that you have a few years of experience as an intensive care nurse.

You thrive in an environment where the pace can shift quickly and where you need to make well-reasoned decisions even in complex situations. At the same time, you have the ability to meet patients, family members, and colleagues with warmth, respect, and compassion.
You are curious about development and enjoy sharing your knowledge while remaining open to learning from others. We value a positive team player who contributes to a good work environment, supports colleagues, and recognizes the strength in succeeding together.
We will conduct interviews on an ongoing basis.
We look forward to your application!
