Candidates who have not previously served in institutions of the Ministry of Interior or the Prison Administration will be required to complete professional development training in a 3-month course in Riga at the State Police College in November 2026!
Main job duties:
· Upon the existence of grounds and basis for initiating criminal proceedings, promptly initiate criminal proceedings for the detection of criminal offences committed in the territory served by the State Police regional division district and conduct necessary pre-trial investigation independently or as part of an investigation group until the person liable to criminal responsibility is identified and sufficient evidence is obtained to initiate criminal prosecution;
· Independently or as a member of an investigation group investigate criminal proceedings received from direct supervisor;
· Timely decide on refusal to initiate criminal proceedings if circumstances precluding criminal proceedings exist;
· Perform investigative organizational, planning and record-keeping work;
· Execute instructions of direct supervisor and supervising prosecutor in ongoing criminal proceedings to ensure criminal proceedings are conducted purposefully and without unjustified delay;
· Make decisions in criminal proceedings regarding investigation direction and conduct of investigation, except in cases where a court decision or prosecutor's approval is necessary;
· Ensure legality of decisions made and timely conduct of investigation activities;
· Independently review submissions, complaints and requests, complying with regulatory requirements.
Requirements for candidates:
· Compliance with requirements set out in paragraphs 4 and 7 of the Law on Special Service Careers for officials of Ministry of Interior system institutions and Prison Administration;
· First-level professional higher education (legal sciences, civil and military defence, commerce and administration, social and human sciences, computer science);
· State (Latvian) language proficiency – highest level C;
· Category B driving license;
· Activated secure electronic signature.
