Department of Clinical Sciences We need to strengthen our amazing team in the forge at the equine department. Are you our new farrier colleague who wants to develop within the profession alongside other farriers, veterinarians and nurses, and with an interest in teaching – we welcome your application! About the job You will work in the clinic's forge together with our other farriers. You will receive both external customers directly to the forge, work with horses being examined by the clinic's orthopedists, and participate in treatments and procedures for admitted horses. Tasks that may occur include work with horses with various types of hoof injuries and hoof diseases, therapeutic shoeing as well as routine shoeing. As a farrier at UDS you will have contact with veterinary technician and veterinary students as well as researchers in ongoing research projects. This position is an hourly-paid employment. Working hours are mainly scheduled on weekdays during daytime, but work at other times may also occur. Your background You who are applying are a JBV-approved farrier with a strong interest in developing within the profession, such as hoof diseases and treatments as well as blacksmithing. You must have documented blacksmithing experience with horseshoes and knowledge of aluminum and glue-on shoes. It is desirable that you have completed SHF's continuing education. Experience working as a farrier at an equine clinic is meritorious. You are used to meeting animal owners in different situations and understand the importance of maintaining good customer relations. As a person you are organized and can tolerate periodically high workload. You have good teamwork skills, high engagement, can work both independently and in a group, and are flexible. You express yourself well in Swedish in speech and writing, and communicate in English. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability and abilities. About us The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research and doctoral education in anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, animal care, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine and reproduction. Within all these subjects our activities span all animal species. At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS) education, research and advanced animal care go hand in hand. We educate tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary technicians and provide first-class care for companion animals, competition animals and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results we develop future animal care. Under one roof we offer care for horses, dogs, cats and other small animals. In addition to modern activity-adapted facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. The Equine Department receives approximately 5000 horses annually. We currently have approximately 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which in turn has approximately 340 employees. The department currently has three units: Clinic with orthopedic and medical cases, forge and specialist clinic for respiration, dentistry, dermatology and ophthalmology.
