Sweden's Deaf National Association (SDR) is a non-profit organization and popular movement working to strengthen deaf people's human rights, democratic participation, and the status of Swedish Sign Language. Through advocacy work, knowledge dissemination, project activities, and support to our member organizations, we work toward a society where deaf people have full participation on equal terms. The organization operates nationally and works on issues including education, the labor market, accessibility, culture, democracy, elderly issues, children and families, and the status of sign language in society. About the Role The role entails overall responsibility for operations, strategy, personnel, finances, and organizational development, and together with the office and board, driving SDR's continued development. An important part of the assignment is translating congress decisions into concrete activities, developing the organization's long-term direction, and ensuring that SDR is positioned to meet future challenges. This is a role for someone who wants to combine strategic leadership with social impact and is motivated by creating real change for deaf people in Sweden. You speak Swedish Sign Language fluently, which is the organization's working language, and you have deaf expertise. The office currently consists of eight employees. Additionally, project-based positions are added to varying extents depending on which projects and initiatives the organization is driving. The organization has recently undergone a reorganization and now needs a leader willing to continue strengthening structures, work methods, and collaboration within the organization. As General Secretary, you will have the opportunity to lead this work together with engaged employees, elected representatives, and member organizations throughout the country. Responsibilities The role of General Secretary entails overall responsibility for leading, developing, and further advancing the organization's operations in close collaboration with the board and employees. You are responsible for translating congress decisions into strategy and implementation, and ensuring that operations achieve set goals, results, and impact in dialogue with the board. Your responsibilities will include: Developing the organization's goals, strategy, and priorities together with the board and ensuring implementation, follow-up, and results. Responsibility for budget together with the finance team, financial monitoring, reporting, and resource planning. Leading and further developing the organization's internal structures, processes, and work methods. Personnel responsibility, including recruitment, employee meetings, skills development, and workplace environment responsibility. Ensuring compliance with labor law and developing relevant HR policies. Contributing to strengthening SDR's position and impact through strategic partnerships, communication, and advocacy work. Monitoring societal developments and identifying opportunities that strengthen deaf people's rights and the status of sign language. Ensuring that operations are conducted in accordance with SDR's values and mission. Qualifications To be a candidate for this role, we would like you to have: Experience in a management position with personnel responsibility. Experience in operations management and organizational development. Experience with budget work, financial management, and operations monitoring. Experience with employer responsibility and workplace environment. Experience with strategic development work. Strong ability to build relationships and represent an organization externally. Experience working in the non-profit sector. Experience with negotiations and contract matters. Experience working within the deaf movement and social sustainability. Academic education or other equivalent education deemed relevant for the assignment.
