Your Assignment
The Department Head is responsible for leading, directing, and developing the entire department based on political goals and given financial frameworks. The role is largely about creating conditions for other managers to succeed.

Ensure that political decisions are implemented and have an effect on operations
Lead through division heads and create clear conditions, mandates, and follow-up
Responsible for budget, resource prioritization, and financial balance
Drive strategic issues and long-term development
Ensure that legislation and governance are followed
Represent the department in dialogue with politics, other departments, and external stakeholders
Build a management team that takes shared responsibility for the whole
Work Tasks
Follow up on results and take measures to improve school performance
Manage demographic changes through strategic prioritization
Create stability in the organization, both structurally and in leadership
Prioritize and maintain focus in an organization with many parallel demands
Ensure that collaboration works between schools, social services, and other stakeholders
Your Experience
We want you to have:
Academic degree in a relevant field
Several years of management and leadership experience
Experience leading through other managers
Experience working in a politically governed organization
Experience from at least one of the department's operational areas
Experience in change and development work
Good communication skills

About the Workplace
Children and Education is responsible for preschool, primary school, upper secondary school, and adult education. It also includes social services for children up to 18 years old. The department has approximately 1,300 competent and motivated employees whom you lead with the help of your four division heads and an administrative manager.
The department also handles labor market measures in collaboration with the employment agency and other actors as well as on its own, practice placements, the municipal activity responsibility, and summer work.
The department has two boards: the Children and Family Board and the Upper Secondary and Adult Education Board.
Children and Family Board
The Children and Family Board is responsible for preschool, primary school, after-school programs, and social services for children and young people up to 18 years old.
Upper Secondary and Adult Education Board
The Upper Secondary and Adult Education Board is responsible for higher education and labor market measures. The organization includes Carl Engström Upper Secondary School, Upper Secondary Special School, Carl Engström Adult Education, Vocational University, Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), and Special Adult Education.
