The Social Services Department's operations encompass both regulatory authority and service delivery within elderly care, services for people with disabilities, child and family services, and health and medical care. The department offers and works with various forms of care and support so that all residents can live as influential, independent, and good a life as possible. Our goal is to effect positive changes in people's lives through assistance, advice, and other measures, and to contribute to individuals' independence. The Social Services Department comprises nearly 500 monthly employees and additional hourly employees. Job Responsibilities As Social Services Director in Vaggeryds kommun, you lead the development of the Social Services Department on behalf of the Social Services Board, where you serve as the link between political objectives, the department's professional expertise, and citizens' needs. The assignment involves translating political goals into strategic direction, business development, and concrete results for the municipality's residents. The Social Services Director is the department head with overall responsibility for operations, finances, quality, working environment, and personnel. The assignment involves leading a politically governed organization based on trust-based leadership where responsibility, collaboration, and professional knowledge are leveraged to create value for the municipality's residents. As Social Services Director, you have a central role in the municipality's strategic development and contribute to the entire municipality's development in an economically, socially, and organizationally sustainable manner. The Social Services Department faces extensive development and transformation work. The assignment includes leading the department's work with, among other things, new social service legislation, the development of Nearby Care, the future of elderly care, the services for people with disabilities sector's transition to meet new target groups, and development in preventive work with children and young people. Areas such as competency supply, digitalization, information security, and the development of long-term sustainable welfare are also upcoming focus areas. As Social Services Director, you are part of the municipality's management group and collaborate closely with elected officials, municipal leadership, the region, authorities, businesses, civil society, and other societal actors to develop welfare based on residents' needs. Qualifications We are seeking a stable leader with several years of experience leading through other managers. You have good knowledge of the departments' areas, conditions, and future challenges, and experience working as a manager in a politically governed organization. We want applicants to have a university or college education in social work or other education deemed equivalent. We also view positively experience with or education in change management. A prerequisite for success in the role is that you have good judgment and are comfortable handling public appearances and media. As a manager, you naturally take a holistic perspective and see beyond the department's boundaries, keeping focus on what is best for the citizen. You have a strategic perspective and create participation by leveraging each profession in the department. Since the role involves being a key person with many collaboration interfaces, we believe it is important that you enjoy relationship-building and collaborating with others. This also requires that your communication skills are good, as the role demands adapted language for the different target groups you encounter.
