Are you curious about how new technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), can be used to develop communication in a safe, ethical and effective way? Do you have both strategic thinking and technical understanding of how websites and social media are best used? Then you might be the person we are looking for. The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) is seeking a communicator responsible for the institute's internal and external websites and social media - with the mission to work together with others to develop forms of storytelling in various digital environments. This is a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. We offer a stimulating work environment in Uppsala, the opportunity for partly remote work and good benefits. About us NAI is a Swedish government agency under the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, financed by the governments of Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and Sweden. The institute's mission is to deepen understanding of contemporary African perspectives among Nordic decision-makers and other stakeholders. We conduct research and collaborate with partner institutions in the Nordic region and Africa. The institute has approximately 35 employees from almost 20 countries. The Communications and Policy Engagement Unit at NAI produces articles, films, infographics, policy briefs and other publications; manages websites and social media; arranges events and policy briefings; and conducts workshops on research communication. We work closely with researchers in shaping our research communication. About the position You are responsible for ensuring that NAI's digital channels – websites and social media – are accessible, secure and effective tools for disseminating research-based knowledge to decision-makers, media and other stakeholders. You develop strategies for content, analytics and user experience, and contribute to strengthening the institute's digital presence and impact. You coordinate and are responsible for publishing in our digital channels. An important part of the role is to follow developments in AI and digital communication, and drive the development of how we use existing and new tools in a safe, responsible and creative way in line with NAI's mission. If you have experience in research communication or translating scientific knowledge for broader audiences, that is a merit. Examples of work tasks Manage the development and administration of NAI's websites, including technical function, analytics and operations. Drive and develop NAI's social media channels and contribute to coherent digital communication. Follow developments in AI and digital communication and provide advice on safe, ethical and effective use of new tools. Ensure that web and digital communication comply with applicable laws and standards, such as GDPR, the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, and WCAG, as well as guidelines for information security in the public sector. Collaborate with internal and external parties, such as researchers, web developers and suppliers. Contribute to the development of NAI's overall communication work and digital strategy. Support colleagues with events and special communication initiatives. Qualifications Requirements: Academic education in communication or equivalent. At least five years of documented experience with website management, social media and digital communication analytics. Good knowledge of laws and standards related to digital communication, such as GDPR, the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act and web accessibility (WCAG). Experience with web analytics, SEO and UX design. Experience in analyzing and evaluating the impact of social media and audience engagement. Understanding of AI tools and their use in communication, with a focus on ethics, security and effectiveness. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability and interest in collaborating in an international and multicultural work environment. Merits: Experience in research communication. Experience of working in international environments.
