Workplace Description InfraVis is Sweden's national infrastructure for visualization of scientific data. Currently, InfraVis employs over 50 experts across nine different universities. CIPA is Lund University's local infrastructure for image processing and analysis. CIPA also serves as the coordinating unit for Lund University's InfraVis node, consisting of approximately 10 people with complementary expertise. InfraVis and CIPA offer all their experts various professional development opportunities and prioritize supporting each individual's development goals and well-being to the greatest extent possible. By working as an expert within InfraVis/CIPA with experience in image processing, image analysis, visualization, and development of user-friendly graphical interfaces (GUIs), you will have access to colleagues both locally and nationally for stimulating exchange, discussions, and collaborative work to solve complex problems, develop new methods, and find the best ways to support research across diverse scientific domains nationwide through visualization expertise. Duties and Responsibilities Your primary task will be to contribute as an expert to various research projects supported by InfraVis. To promote knowledge transfer and development of the research infrastructure and its experts, regular and active participation in various collaborative activities, including meetings, is required. The position offers opportunities for career and professional development of both a general and specific nature. Work will focus on image processing and visualization of images and volumes. The work may encompass one or more of the following areas: Image processing and analysis of tomographic data, such as synchrotron X-ray microtomography or laboratory-based X-ray microtomography. Development of scientific visualizations. Development of user-friendly graphical interfaces (GUIs) with the capability to perform image processing, image analysis, and visualization. Qualifications We are looking for an experienced and motivated person who is easy to work with and thrives in a complex research environment. Requirements for employment: A doctoral degree or equivalent experience in a subject relevant to the position—for example, in natural sciences or engineering. Additional requirements: Excellent spoken and written English skills. Experience in image processing and analysis of images or volumes, e.g., in ImageJ/Fiji, Python. Experience with visualization software, e.g., Blender, DragonFly. Knowledge of programming, e.g., in Python. Experience developing user-friendly graphical interfaces (GUIs). High motivation with the ability to initiate and quickly master new technologies, plus excellent work and time management skills. Strong collaboration and communication skills. Meritorious for employment: Proven experience collaborating with various stakeholders (researchers from different scientific domains). Consideration will also be given to how your experience and competence complement and strengthen ongoing activities within the infrastructure and how this can contribute to its future development. Other Information We are seeking a research engineer for a fixed-term position of 3 months at 100% employment. Desired start date is 2026-10-01 or by agreement.
