University West is driven by making a difference. Through our education and research, we want to contribute to innovation, positive societal development, and a sustainable world. We are a modern university in strong development, and collaborating with the outside world is a priority for us. University West has one of the highest application rates in the country and a high proportion of our students establish themselves in the labor market. The university has 13,000 students and over 700 employees. Our attractive campus is centrally located in Trollhättan and is a place where knowledge, ideas, cultures, and people meet. We actively work toward an inclusive work environment with equal conditions and value the qualities that diversity brings to our operations. We who work at University West make a difference every day. Do you want to as well? University West is seeking a research assistant in cybersecurity. The research group in cybersecurity focuses on AI and cybersecurity in IT/OT environments. The project investigates how agentic AI can be used to independently detect and analyze cyberthreats and propose or implement appropriate countermeasures. An important part of the work is the development of AI-based solutions that can adapt to changing threats and conditions during operation. The project further strengthens University West's research in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, with a clear focus on industrial applications. Responsibilities: As a research assistant, you will investigate how agentic AI frameworks support and transform the entire chain for detection, analysis, and management of cyberthreats, and how continuous adaptation of AI-intensive security systems during operation challenges traditional approaches within cybersecurity and compliance. The AEGIR project (Agentic Explainable Governance and Incident Reasoning) studies the security and robustness of continuous, agentic reasoning chains from threat identification to security action. The research is conducted in collaboration with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB and several industrial partners. We are looking for candidates with a background in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Knowledge of regulations and compliance requirements, such as the NIS2 Directive and the EU AI Regulation (AI Act), is an asset. Required for this position: Advanced degree (Master's degree) in cybersecurity, computer science, or equivalent field. Completed higher education studies of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or otherwise acquired knowledge assessed to correspond to the above qualifications, in Sweden or abroad. Documented proficiency in communicating orally and in writing in English. Meritorious for the position: Documented experience working with machine learning and AI algorithms (via GitHub page), with tools such as TensorFlow and/or PyTorch. Experience working with IT/OT networks. Experience developing new ML/AI architectures. Experience working with cybersecurity-related regulations and compliance. Documented experience with research work and scientific writing. (Previous scientific publications in the field are an asset). Ability to communicate in Swedish. Special Personal Qualities: Good collaboration skills. Other Information: This is a fixed-term employment. The selection process may include work tests, interviews, and reference checks. Applications are submitted digitally via our recruitment tool. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their application is complete in accordance with this announcement and submitted to the university by the final application deadline. Materials that cannot be submitted digitally, such as books and publications, should be marked with reference number R 2026/140 and sent in one copy.
