More information is available on our website https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom Read more about our benefits and what it's like to work at Uppsala University Project and Technology The position is part of the project "Electrolyte Volume Metrology for Sustainable Lithium‑ion Batteries", which aims to develop a new, minimally invasive gas sorption technique to quantify electrolyte volume in commercial lithium-ion cells based on gas dissolution in the electrolyte. The project is financed through the Novo Nordisk Foundation's Pioneer Innovator Grant, which is based on an invention encompassing the method and apparatus for determining the electrolyte volume in commercial lithium-ion batteries. Responsibilities Develop the experimental setup to study electrolyte behavior in commercial lithium-ion batteries. Refinement of the test bench and software interface for quantitative determination of electrolyte consumption in commercial Li-ion cells. Map gas solubility in commercially relevant electrolyte formulations. Document hardware, measurement procedures, and workflows for data analysis in standard operating procedures (SOP), internal reports, and scientific manuscripts. Contribute to commercialization of the patented technology through collaboration with industrial partners for early evaluation of prototypes. Collaborate with the project team and relevant research groups within Ångström Advanced Battery Centre, and present results at group meetings and at national and international conferences. Qualification Requirements Master's degree or higher in chemistry, materials science, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. A Ph.D. is meriting but not an absolute requirement if equivalent experience can be demonstrated. Experience with lithium-ion batteries and/or electrochemical energy storage, for example cell testing, aging studies, or related diagnostics. Practical experience in developing experimental setups (hardware, sensors, software interfaces) and quantitative data analysis. Strong knowledge of IT and programming environments relevant to measurement control and data processing (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar). Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English. Desirable/Additional Merits: Experience collaborating with industry partners, startups, or commercialization of research results (intellectual property, patents, proof-of-concept projects). Experience developing business plans. Experience in safe handling and testing of lithium-ion cells and use of pressurized gas equipment. About the Position The employment is time-limited, 12 months.
