For more information see www.conservation.gu.se The full announcement can be found at https://web103.reachmee.com/ext/I005/1035/job?site=6&lang=SE&validator=3038fcf1516ea1184a6da70a891f87da&job_id=41310 Responsibilities Subject areas: Structural biology, biotechnology, microbial physiology, cultivation in controlled environments, sustainable food production We are seeking a researcher to establish a new interdisciplinary research program investigating structure-based biological nutrient delivery for sustainable food production. The researcher will work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers in aquatic science, engineers, and food researchers in collaboration with several international research groups. The position focuses on how microorganisms regulate the availability of micronutrients in cultivation of microalgae, hydroponics, aquaponics, and production of microbial and fungal biomass. The researcher will establish a research program with the goal of identifying the molecular mechanisms responsible for efficient micronutrient delivery for biotechnological applications. The role combines scientific expertise with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and driving interdisciplinary research projects. A central part of the position is the interface between academic research and industry, including coordination of externally funded projects and collaborative projects where research results need to be translated into practical and commercially relevant applications. The position requires excellent communication skills to be able to convey results to collaborators, research partners, funders, and industrial stakeholders. Expected outcomes include scientific publications, presentations, development of communication and dissemination materials, and patent applications. Qualifications Employment requires a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, or related field, as well as documented postdoctoral experience with structure-function relationships of biologically important proteins and documented ability to lead projects within both academia and industry. The applicant should demonstrate expertise in several of the following areas: extensive experience with structural characterization of proteins using modern structural biology techniques; documented expertise in protein-ligand interactions and molecular recognition, particularly when ligand binding induces structural or functional changes in proteins; experience investigating protein conformational dynamics using experimental or computational structural methods; expertise in computational structural biology, including AlphaFold-based protein prediction, molecular docking, molecular dynamics, and structure-based functional interpretation; experience integrating complementary structural biology techniques, including cryo-electron microscopy or related methods; documented ability to identify biologically relevant ligand binding sites and relate structural observations to molecular function; experience interpreting structural biology in the context of broader biological systems rather than isolated protein structures; scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating independence and excellence in structural biology; experience working on interdisciplinary and international research projects, including strategic research development and experimental work at major international research infrastructures; experience developing research proposals; research planning and coordination of resources; scientific communication, reporting, and dissemination to both scientific audiences and the general public; cross-functional problem-solving and project delivery; experience working across the boundaries between academia, industry, and international research infrastructures.
