Description of the Workplace The six-month researcher position within the project Conservative Climate Justice for a Sustainable Transition is located at the Department of Human Rights, Department of History, Lund University. The department conducts education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Human Rights is also one of Lund University's five profile areas and brings together researchers from various parts of the university. Duties and Responsibilities You will: • Conduct research within the interdisciplinary research project Conservative Climate Justice for a Sustainable Transition. The project examines the relationship between conservative ideology and a fair and effective transition to a low-carbon society. • Work closely with Eric Brandstedt at Lund University within the project's fourth sub-project, which investigates how conservatism functions as an ideology and identity in resistance to climate policy. Your research will particularly focus on the role that conservative ideas, values, identities, and ideological convictions play in resistance to climate policy measures and other forms of climate action. • Bear particular responsibility for collecting and analyzing relevant empirical material and for developing theoretically informed analyses of the selected cases. A central part of your work will be to apply methods of ideology analysis and ideology critique to contemporary conservatism. The research will combine theoretical and conceptual work with empirical case studies of conservative ideology as it is expressed in public and political debate. You are expected to: • Conduct research independently while also working closely with Brandstedt on the sub-project's conceptual and theoretical development. • Participate actively in the broader research environment of the project, including through digital project meetings and other relevant project activities. The overall project is led by Olle Torpman at the Institute for Futures Studies in Stockholm and includes researchers from multiple disciplines and institutions. Qualifications Requirements for the position: • PhD in Human Rights or another subject relevant to the position, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. • Documented knowledge of and experience with methods for analyzing political ideologies and/or political discourse. • Ability to conduct qualitative empirical analyses of media material and other forms of public or political discourse. • Sufficient knowledge of Swedish to independently collect and analyze Swedish-language media material as well as public and administrative documents. • Ability to conduct research independently and good ability to collaborate with other researchers. Meritorious for the position: • Documented research with direct relevance to the research project, particularly research on political ideology, the ethical or ideological dimensions of the green transition, and/or resistance to climate and environmental policy. • Research experience with issues concerning ideology, political values, or normative questions in relation to agriculture, animal husbandry, or food production. • Experience combining empirical research with normative, ethical, or political-theoretical analysis. Knowledge of justice aspects of climate and energy policy, particularly in a Swedish context. • Experience with interdisciplinary research and collaboration with researchers from different academic disciplines. • Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English. Other Information The position is a fixed-term employment at 50 percent for 6 months, with a start date of November 1, 2026, or by agreement. About the Faculties of Humanities and Theology The Faculties of Humanities and Theology have seven departments and conduct extensive and varied activities in research and education. About the Department of History The Department of History is one of seven departments at the Faculties of Humanities and Theology. It is a large department with three divisions: the Division of History, the Division of Human Rights, and the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies. The department has around 100 teachers and researchers. Education within the department is conducted primarily through bachelor's programs in history and human rights, a master's program in history, and international master's programs in human rights and Asian studies respectively. The department also has substantial doctoral education with doctoral students in history, human rights, and East and Southeast Asian studies, among other things through a research school in historical studies.
