The Institute for Built Environment and Industrial Engineering comprises three departments: Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Building Technology and Built Environment. The Institute has a strong international research environment with approximately 100 employees engaged in research and education at both the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala and Campus Gotland. This position will be based in the Department of Industrial Engineering in Uppsala. Description In this role, you will be part of and contribute to developing the research group SPARK – innovation leadership for sustainable societal transformation. SPARK studies how sociotechnical systems develop and how innovation and change processes can be designed, managed, and implemented to support more sustainable, fair, and inclusive societies. The research is conducted in an interdisciplinary manner and in close collaboration with actors outside academia. A central part of the position is to further develop the Technology and Society initiative together with other researchers. This initiative aims to bring together researchers from different scientific fields around the interaction between technological development and societal, organizational, and institutional change processes. Duties Conduct research and research development in the area of technology and society, and contribute to the development of SPARK and Technology and Society. Plan and implement research on the interaction between technological development and societal, organizational, and institutional processes. Develop research design, conduct qualitative data collection and analysis, and write scientific publications. Initiate, lead, and participate in external research applications, and contribute to developing new research projects and collaborations. Contribute to developing Technology and Society as an interdisciplinary research environment and foster collaboration with researchers from different scientific fields. Conduct research and collaboration within one or more of the initiative's areas, for example, the societal consequences of digitalization, technology and organization, energy transition and energy communities, or other sociotechnical transformation processes. Conduct and analyze interviews, focus groups, observations, workshops, and documentary materials, and where necessary, combine these with other methodological approaches. Plan and conduct workshops and other forms of knowledge exchange and co-creation with various societal actors. Contribute to scientific and popular science communication. Teaching and supervision may occur. Qualification Requirements Doctoral degree in one of the following areas: industrial engineering, information systems, business administration, organizational studies, sociology, cultural studies/ethnology, innovation, science and technology studies, or another relevant field. Ability to independently conduct research while working in interdisciplinary and collaboration-oriented environments. Documented experience with qualitative social science research on technology use, organization, or societal consequences. Documented experience with independent qualitative data collection and analysis, for example, interviews, observations, focus groups, or document analysis. Experience with research in interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary environments where technical questions are studied together with social and organizational perspectives. Ability to independently formulate research questions, develop research design, analyze empirical material, and write scientific texts. Good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English. Good collaborative skills, initiative, and ability to plan and drive work toward common goals and deadlines. Desirable/Meriting Qualifications Research on - digitalization, information systems, or the social and organizational aspects of technology. - energy transition, energy systems, or energy communities from a social science or sociotechnical perspective. Experience with - ethnographic or cultural analytical approaches. - working with concepts and theories that illuminate the relationship between technology, organization, practice, power, inclusion, or sustainability. - research projects funded by external research funders and participation in or development of research applications. - leading sub-studies or work packages and coordinating qualitative data collection. - collaboration with actors outside academia and planning and conducting workshops, focus groups, or other co-creation activities. - teaching and supervision at the university level.
