Parent Support Specialist Ages 6-18, Social Services Hisingen
Description Would you like to join our team of parent support specialists for school-age children, working to provide parents with tools, confidence, and support in their parenting? A team member has moved on to new responsibilities, and we are now seeking an engaged parent support specialist focused on school-age children who wants to be part of creating positive changes for both parents and children. Social Services is tasked with working preventatively and proactively with community residents, with particular focus on children and young people's social situation and well-being. In addition to offering general preventive work, Social Services should early detect the needs of vulnerable children to be able to offer children and parents various forms of support. As a parent support specialist, you thus play an important role in meeting with families in Hisingen. Job Responsibilities In your role as a parent support specialist, you work with individual conversations with parents, parent groups, outreach activities, and collaboration with other actors. You provide supportive and advisory conversations about parenting regarding daily routines, conflicts, school issues, and child development. In these conversations, you work with parenting strategies based on research and proven experience. You also provide information about public services and guide parents to appropriate contact with other authorities and healthcare providers. Working from a systemic perspective, you actively work to mobilize the actors around the family, including their personal network as well as school, healthcare, and official social services. Your starting point is to promote good conditions for all children's development, to see the child in context, and to raise the child's voice in your work with parents. Your assignment includes staffing our parent helpline and email where parents themselves reach out for contact. The barrier to entry is low, and this means you will meet parents in all kinds of life situations, where your role is to create confidence, sort information, and together with the parent find possible ways forward. You make assessments regarding target group and support needs and guide the parent to other actors when necessary. Beyond individual parent support conversations, you lead parent groups, such as ABC and parent groups around problematic school absenteeism. You will also hold parent meetings, presentations, and lectures for both parents and collaboration partners. You will be part of our school social teams, where collaboration and early interventions for families are in focus. In your role as a parent support specialist, you work proactively to meet parents where they are, to lower barriers and make support accessible to all parents in Hisingen. You view civil society actors as natural collaboration partners and strive to build contacts and move across multiple arenas. The outreach work takes place mainly in Biskopsgården and Backa-Brunnsbo. Working in this unit means developmental work, a good work climate, and engaged and knowledgeable colleagues. As a parent support specialist, you will be able to offer advice and support close in time to when parents reach out, and thus contribute to good service and interventions at an early stage. We have collegial method supervision and external process supervision. In our unit we work with self-directed teams, which means you have good opportunities to participate in development work and influence work methods and approaches. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a degree in social work with several years of experience in social work with the target group of families with children and young people ages 6 to 18 years. You have good knowledge of Social Services' mission and authority responsibilities regarding the target group. We would appreciate it if you have training and have led ABC parent groups or other corresponding group activities. You have a systemic perspective on children, families, and other networks. You should have good knowledge of parenting, child development, and areas of social work such as domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues, in both children and parents. You are accustomed to working in interprofessional collaboration. Since many of our cases involve school issues and matters related to child psychiatric care (BUP), experience in these areas is a merit. You should be comfortable having individual conversations with parents and parent couples, leading parent groups, and giving presentations to both parents and other professionals. Having good interpersonal skills is a given for you. You have great ability to collaborate both internally and externally and are both creative and persistent. As a parent support specialist, you work in areas where implementation of the new Social Services Act is highly current, which means you need to be comfortable with development work and organizational change processes. You have good ability to work both independently and in a team and you have an easy time collaborating. You also have good ability to create your own structure, work independently, and seek help from colleagues when needed. You have a humble and unpretentious approach, good analytical skills, and a focus on seeing resources and finding solutions. You always maintain a child perspective in your work with parents. Some work is scheduled in the evenings, for example during parent courses or when families cannot meet during daytime. You therefore need to be able to work evenings when needed. Would you like to work in a positive and engaged unit? Here there are many employees with long experience and great drive in the mission. Welcome with your application! Other Information Interviews are estimated to be conducted week 36. To your interview, you need to bring your passport/national ID and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EES. This is so we as an employer can verify your identity and ensure that you have the right to work in Sweden. City of Gothenburg applies individual and differentiated salary setting.
