About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. We are the authority responsible for correctional facilities, probation services, remand prisons, and inmate transportation. The Umeå operational area encompasses the closed correctional facility Umeå, the open correctional facility Sörbyn, and the remand prison Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion with much happening in the operational area in the form of renovations and new construction. The largest occupational group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. At Sörbyn facility, inmates participate in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, plant cultivation, textile production, etc. Sörbyn is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå facility, inmates work in woodworking/industry, the kitchen, learning centers, and treatment programs. The Umeå facility and remand prison are approximately a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn facility is most easily reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units. We are now seeking a facilities technician. You will primarily be based at Umeå correctional facility and be part of a team with five other security technicians and facilities technicians within the entire Umeå operational area. We collaborate across the different facilities, which means you may also work at the remand prison and Sörbyn facility when needed. We warmly welcome your application! Job Description As a facilities technician, you will work both practically and administratively with facilities management and matters concerning physical security. You are responsible for handling all types of maintenance reports related to facilities management in accordance with the boundary list vis-à-vis the property owner. In this role, you will work on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the facility's interior and exterior spaces to ensure that operations maintain their function. You perform routine maintenance tasks such as repairs, painting, lock repairs, sewage handling, and visitor management. You work closely with the property owner, subcontractors, and other external parties to develop and improve the property's functionality and operations. You will also be responsible for planning and developing specifications for ordering facilities technical systems related to the facility's spaces. The role also includes administrative tasks such as documentation, follow-up, and handling of orders and invoices. You report regularly to your direct supervisor and the property owner. Qualifications We are seeking someone who is practically minded and an initiative-taking person who is not afraid to take on tasks and implement them effectively. You have a high service orientation, good collaborative skills, are solution-oriented, are communicative, and have the ability to see the bigger picture. You function well in a group and are also self-directed.
