The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) works toward a society free from discrimination and ensures that those who have experienced discrimination receive redress. DO is now seeking a unit manager for the legal department who wants to contribute to our important work. We are looking for a skilled lawyer and experienced manager with excellent leadership qualities who will lead and develop the authority's legal department. As manager of the legal department, you will manage five section chiefs, lead the legal department's management group, participate in the authority's management group, and report directly to the ombudsman/authority director. Your Responsibilities As manager of the legal department, you are responsible for leading and developing the department's operations and ensuring legal quality. In your role as unit manager, you report directly to the ombudsman/authority director. The breadth and complexity of DO's mission requires leadership characterized by curiosity, humility, strong collaboration skills, and a holistic perspective. You will participate in the authority's management group and are expected in that role to contribute to the implementation of DO's mission, vision, and long-term strategic goals in collaboration with the ombudsman and other unit managers. As unit manager, you will lead the department's operations through five section chiefs who have personnel and operational responsibility for their respective sections. In your leadership, you should create favorable conditions for section chiefs to fulfill their tasks and assignments. You should also foster a good work environment and professional collaboration between sections and within the authority. As unit manager, you have personnel responsibility for the section chiefs and overall operational and budget responsibility for the department. You lead the legal department's management group where you and the section chiefs participate. Qualification Profile We are looking for a qualified lawyer with - a Swedish law degree, equivalent older degree, or legal education that is recognized as equivalent to a Swedish law degree - current judicial education from general court or administrative court, or alternatively a few years of other current relevant experience in qualified legal work that DO considers equivalent - relevant experience leading and developing operations as a manager within an organization - documented excellent leadership qualities - excellent communication skills - excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written You should also have excellent ability to - conduct and assess in-depth legal analyses and oversee entire legal areas - analyze and assess complex information and make strategic assessments based on operational needs - work to find solutions that benefit operations and the authority's mission as a whole and be responsive to operational needs - create structure and coordinate and prioritize various operational matters concerning both the department's and the authority's areas of responsibility - build trust, be secure, and be unpretentious - collaborate, create good relationships, and foster a good work environment - lead, inspire, motivate, and develop others - be clear in your communication and feedback - treat people with respect and maintain high integrity It is meritorious if you have - experience managing through managers - knowledge of discrimination law - current experience working with supervisory activities - current experience working with civil procedure law and dispute resolution - knowledge of EU law and human rights In the recruitment process, we will place great emphasis on personal qualities and abilities.
