DUTIES Are you interested in working together with competent and committed employees to create social value within the areas of animal health, animal welfare, and animal health and veterinary care, both nationally and internationally? Do you have the ability to see the big picture while handling complicated details? Then this position might be for you! As a unit manager, your task is to operatively and strategically lead your unit with approximately 20 employees. In your role, you are responsible for personnel, work environment, results, and budget. The unit works in teams and takes collective responsibility for solving our tasks and achieving our common objectives. We continuously develop and improve our work methods for a good work environment and to work efficiently and with legal certainty. You are an experienced leader who contributes to creating security and a good work environment for all employees. The unit is responsible for, among other things: • representing Sweden in international matters concerning animal health, animal welfare, inspection, and import conditions, • participating in international meetings and being responsible for international disease reporting, • managing contacts and communication with countries outside the EU in case of outbreaks of contagious animal diseases, • issuing credentials and approvals for animal health personnel, • being responsible for matters concerning animal medicines including antibiotic reporting to the EU, • handling matters concerning official veterinarians and border control, • ensuring access to veterinary services throughout the country, • coordinating and monitoring state veterinary operations, and • being responsible for matters within civil preparedness and crisis management concerning animal health and veterinary care. As a unit manager, you lead an operation with varied and qualified tasks. You have an important role in creating conditions for employees to succeed by providing support in prioritization and making decisions from a holistic perspective. The unit works in close collaboration with Sweden's Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) who supports on strategic and overarching matters. In your role, you represent your unit internally and the Swedish Board of Agriculture externally. You have many contacts with industry representatives, other authorities, and various interest organizations. You are part of the Animal Department's management group together with the department head, who leads the group consisting of the infection control officer, animal welfare officer, CVO, deputy department head, and unit managers for the other eight units in the department. In close collaboration, you drive the department's development forward. QUALIFICATIONS To be suitable for the position of unit manager, you must have an academic degree from a university or college that is assessed to be relevant for the task. You must have worked as a manager with personnel responsibility in the recent past and have documented experience leading operations and employees. The position requires you to have strong leadership ability and experience leading, coordinating, and distributing work, as well as taking responsibility for operational results and missions. Managerial and leadership experience is considered continuous and is a fundamental prerequisite for success in the role. You must be able to express yourself very well both orally and in writing in Swedish. You also need to have strong command of English. It is meritorious if you have experience with government authority functions and are accustomed to working within the framework of laws and regulations. Veterinary expertise and experience from animal health and veterinary care or disease prevention work are also meritorious. This competence gives you good conditions to understand the operational context and contribute to legally sound and quality case handling. In your role as unit manager, you have a clear responsibility for achieving results and driving operations forward. You do this through effective and present leadership, where you engage and develop your employees, and build trusting relationships with both the team and partners.
