Welcome to Formas, a research council for sustainable development! We finance research and innovation that can contribute to fulfilling the UN's global sustainability goals and develop knowledge foundations to help Sweden achieve its environmental targets. We have a strong focus on collaboration with researchers and various societal actors, both in Sweden and internationally. At Formas, you will have the opportunity to work in a knowledge-intensive organization driven by the mission to contribute to sustainable development. The newly established unit is part of the Department for Climate and Natural Environment. The department consists of two units that together are responsible for the department's combined mission. Unit managers lead the work in the department together with the department head and are members of the department's management group. As a unit manager, you will also have strong collaborations and shared assignments with unit managers in other departments. The unit has approximately 10 employees. About the Role As unit manager for Resilient Ecosystems, you are responsible for developing Formas' activities in oceans and water as well as in biodiversity. The unit is responsible for the national research program on oceans and water, the Impact Innovation program WaterWise Societies, and Formas' international collaborations in biodiversity, blue economy and water resource management, as well as work on the UN Decade of Ocean Science. Through systematic research compilations, the unit contributes scientific decision-making foundations for authorities, municipalities, and other actors that develop and manage policy instruments, measures, and guidelines within the environmental field. Within your area of responsibility and broadly across the agency, the unit actively works to develop our financing processes, strategic communication about Formas' initiatives, and the utilization and impact of the research and innovation the agency finances. As unit manager, you are responsible for: Personnel matters, including work environment and skills development Creating a sense of security in the team and supporting your employees' and the unit's development Contributing to good collaboration within the department's management group and with other departments Budget, activity planning, and monitoring of the unit's operations Ensuring progress and prioritizing in the unit's operational activities Quality assurance of decision-making materials Requirements for the Position Academic degree in a subject area relevant to the employer At least 5 years of professional experience A strong interest in research and societal development Experience navigating and working in research and innovation environments Good understanding of Formas' mission, thematic areas, and societal role Established networks and relationships with relevant actors Knowledge of research and innovation financing Several years of experience from a knowledge-intensive organization Current and broad knowledge across the unit's subject areas (challenges, knowledge needs, policy context) Beyond the operations-focused requirements, you have documented experience translating strategic priorities into operational change work and developing teams consisting of highly specialized individuals. Your leadership is demonstrated through your ability to clearly communicate priorities and delegate tasks and mandates from a holistic perspective. You value building good relationships by showing and creating trust and security in both your own collaborations and the teams you lead. You have excellent communication skills and express yourself fluently and clearly in both speech and writing.
