About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities and inmate transportation. The Authority Management Office (MLK) at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service headquarters is a staff function that provides support to the authority management and the national leadership group. The office works across the authority to strengthen the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's capacity for strategic management, coordination and analysis. The office consists of two units: the External Environment and Analysis Unit and the International Unit. We are now seeking a Unit Manager for the International Unit, based in Stockholm (Liljeholmen). Appointment is contingent on a decision to declare the position vacant. Job Description The International Unit is responsible for coordinating and long-term development of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's international activities. The unit has overall and national responsibility for international multilateral cooperation within the UN and EU, international civilian crisis management, bilateral development cooperation, and other international activities and coordination. Sweden also has commitments to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex. The unit is also tasked with actively engaging in international network building. As Unit Manager, you report to the Office Director and are part of the leadership group at MLK. Your work includes developing the business with a focus on strategic and long-term direction, as well as developing structures and working methods that support the unit's various processes. The unit handles matters related to planning, recruitment, training, and policy and methodology development related to overseas assignments. Responsibilities also include coordinating Swedish participation in international conferences and forums, veteran activities, and responsibility for international study visits. As Unit Manager, you have operational and budget responsibility for the unit and personnel responsibility for approximately 25 people, of which 11 are direct subordinates and the rest are seconded by the authority. The unit has many contact points and collaboration areas both internally and externally, as well as nationally and internationally. Travel abroad is a regular part of the assignment. We are looking for someone who has: Multiple years of academic education/university degree, preferably in political science, international relations, law or another field combined with work experience relevant to the assignment Multiple years of well-documented management experience with operational, budget and personnel responsibility, preferably from the public sector Documented knowledge and experience of working with international issues, particularly within the areas of the justice system, aid and development cooperation or human rights within e.g. the EU or UN Experience of leading change with good results Experience and ability to collaborate and cooperate both internally and externally to achieve the organization's goals Very good ability to express yourself fluently in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written It is also meritorious to have: Documented leadership training Training within the framework of multilateral cooperation Experience of: International negotiations, talks or consultations Work in intergovernmental bodies such as the EU and UN Strategic advice on international issues Strategic work within public administration, preferably state administration Work within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service Representing activities that are of both political and mass media interest Good knowledge of the overarching conditions (regulations, budget, employer policy, procurement etc.) that apply to public administration, preferably state administration Knowledge of additional languages Other Information To be eligible for employment with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you must meet high standards regarding suitability, judgment, security and confidentiality awareness and comply with applicable laws.
