We are looking for two employees: one focused on restoration and partial action programs for better water in one of the county's main drainage areas, and one to develop the basis for and test a new method for classifying valuable waters. One position is permanent, the other is a fixed-term employment.
The Fisheries Unit
You will be part of the Fisheries Unit, one of five units in the Nature Department. The unit consists of nineteen employees with great interest and drive. The unit handles water and fish issues from a broad perspective and collaborates closely with other units, particularly the Water Unit. At the Fisheries Unit, we contribute to coordinated action work in the county's lakes and waterways, where the unit has special responsibility for driving fish management and restoration and for coordinating the county's NAP work. Other important work areas include managing fish and fishing in Vättern and conducting fish surveys. Work Tasks
Sweden is investing in increasing efforts to reduce eutrophication problems through various measures, restore physically affected aquatic environments, recreate wetlands, and environmentally adapt hydropower. These measures are needed to meet local, regional, national, and international environmental goals. The County Administrative Board in Jönköping is well advanced, but needs to scale up the effort further and is therefore seeking new engaged and competent employees who can strengthen our work.
We work with clear objectives and distribute work tasks among ourselves based on competence, interest, and opportunities. Work is organized in teams, and the new positions will be part of the restoration team. The main focus of the positions is described below, but work tasks will be adapted to your competence and experience.
Restoration and Action Planning
You will participate in action planning and development of drainage area-based action programs. This work involves developing descriptions of impacts, values, ongoing action work, and prioritizing action needs in collaboration with neighboring counties, municipalities, and other stakeholders for one to two main drainage areas in the county. You will participate in anchoring the plan and driving implementation of environmental improvement measures in our lakes and waterways.
You will also work concretely on achieving restoration of physical impacts, particularly in waterways. Other work tasks that may become relevant include participating in and evaluating various types of fish surveys, including gill net surveys.
Valuable Waters
You will participate in developing the basis and testing a new method for classifying valuable waters. The basis will be used as a prioritization foundation for protection and restoration of waters and as a knowledge resource in the County Administrative Board's and municipalities' handling of water-related matters. The work includes managing large data volumes and geographic information in GIS.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a natural science/technical university education or equivalent containing subjects such as biology, limnology, fisheries biology, hydrology, environmental science, or ecosystem engineering.
If you have previously worked with, or have in-depth knowledge of, fish management, action work in aquatic environments, particularly physical restoration, coordination, project management, or implementation and evaluation of fish surveys, this is meriting. Previous work at a government agency is also meriting, as is knowledge of hydrological calculations/modeling, GIS, and experience managing large and complex data volumes in Excel.
The position requires you to express yourself well in Swedish in speech and writing, and having at least a B-level driver's license is meriting.
We place great importance on your personal qualities. You will collaborate both internally and externally, so you need to have good cooperation skills. You need to be structured but also flexible as the positions will include several different work tasks. You are responsible, have good judgment, and are engaged in the subject matter with the ability to independently prioritize and drive work tasks to completion.
Terms
The positions are full-time. One position is permanent and one is a fixed-term employment for approximately 6 months. We apply a 6-month probationary period as standard for our permanent positions. Start date as soon as possible after agreement.
