The Fisheries Unit
You will be part of the Fisheries Unit, which is one of five units within the Nature Department. The unit consists of nineteen employees with great interest and drive. The unit handles water and fish issues from a broad perspective and works closely with other units, particularly the Water Unit. Managing and developing Vättern's fish and fishing is one of our prioritized work areas. We are responsible for, among other things, planning and implementing fisheries supervision throughout Vättern. We disseminate information, conduct various fish surveys and fish management initiatives, and play a leading role in co-management of fishing in Vättern. Other major tasks in the unit include driving restoration work and coordinating the county's NAP work. We also work with managing and developing national environmental data systems. Work Tasks
You will be an important part of the ecosystem-based fisheries management work in Vättern. One of the main tasks will be to plan and implement fisheries supervision throughout Vättern. The work involves extensive external contacts and coordination with other relevant authorities and stakeholders. Supervision work takes place partly in evenings and on weekends. You will also participate in several other tasks such as fish marking, net and crayfish sampling, information dissemination, and evaluation of fish surveys. The content of the position will be adapted to your competence and experience.
We work with clear goal management and distribute work tasks based on competence, interest, and opportunities. The work is organized in teams and the position will be part of the Vättern team.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a natural science/technical university education or equivalent containing subjects such as biology, limnology, fisheries biology, hydrology, fisheries management.
You have at least a B-level driver's license and experience driving a car with a trailer, as well as boats larger than approximately 5 meters. It is meritorious if you have experience with fisheries supervision, some form of maritime officer qualifications, knowledge of marine electronics and VHF, as well as an E-level driver's license. Knowledge of sport fishing, commercial fishing, fishing legislation, and English language skills are also meritorious. Good knowledge of Swedish language in both speech and writing is a requirement.
If you have previously worked with, or have in-depth knowledge of, fish management, coordination, project management, information dissemination, or implementation and evaluation of fish surveys, that is meritorious. Previous experience working at a government agency is also meritorious.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. You will collaborate both internally and externally, so you need to have good collaboration skills. You need to be organized but also flexible as the position will involve several different work tasks. You are responsible, have good judgment, and are engaged in the subject matter with the ability to independently prioritize and drive work tasks to completion.
Terms
The position is full-time and is permanent. We apply a 6-month probationary period as standard for our permanent positions. Start date as soon as possible after agreement.
