Your responsibilities As a student assistant in an adapted school, you work closely with our students and provide support throughout their entire school day—pedagogically, practically, and socially. Through good relationships, you support and provide security to our students so they can learn, develop, and make progress in their schooling and everyday life. You get to closely follow students' developmental journey in school and, together with both students and colleagues, celebrate their progress. Adapted school exists for students with intellectual disabilities. Since our students have significant individual variations in their abilities and support needs, your tasks and working methods vary both throughout the day and over time. Work in our operations is characterized by structure and predictability, while you need to be flexible in how you interact with the student. You are therefore expected to act with calm and security while challenging the student to develop and finding creative solutions to any difficulties that may arise. Common responsibilities include: - Clarify the teacher's instructions during lessons, for example by communicating through verbal explanation, sign support, sensory stimulation, or visual supports. - Support students with practical challenges throughout the day, such as toilet visits/diaper changes, recess activities, during meals, meeting them at taxi pickup, lifting and transfers. - Participate in teaching together with students. - When needed, lead lessons based on the teacher's planning. - Support students in social interactions with others. - Document the student's school day, either for the students or by supporting students to do so, through photos and written reflections. - Follow students' personal care plans, such as testing blood sugar, injecting insulin, administering medication, and tube feeding. - Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating student development. - Support and equip students for independent life after school. This position is a temporary assignment from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. Your workplace Ullevis Adapted Elementary School is located in the Skäggetorp district in Linköping and shares facilities with Ullevis Elementary School. The school opened in March 2021 and currently has approximately 60 enrolled students, from Flex through year 6, with approximately 6-8 students per class. The facilities are modern and adapted for our operations; for example, we have customized home economics classrooms. We are close to nature and have access to an e-bike that allows us to take excursions and explore the surrounding area with our students. About you We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in people and an ability to see each individual's strengths and abilities. You see possibilities where others might see obstacles or challenges. To succeed in this role, you need to maintain your calm and focus in intense situations and act in a controlled manner when circumstances change. You find it easy to adapt your working method to the student's daily condition and see changes as a natural part of everyday life. You must have completed upper secondary education. You must also have good communicative skills in both spoken and written Swedish. This is so that, according to the curriculum (Lgra22), you can organize and carry out work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development. Furthermore, you must be able to work physically, as lifting and transfers with aids are a natural part of everyday life. It is meritorious if you have experience from adapted schools. Experience with visual supports, low-arousal approach, and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) is also meritorious.
