These are hourly-paid, time-limited part-time positions where you work as needed. Welcome to Ektorp Adapted Elementary School Ektorp Adapted Elementary School opened in January 2024 and currently has 21 students. The operation has grown rapidly with both students and staff and is still in an exciting development phase. The school serves students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities who study subjects and/or subject areas in grades 1-9. We offer after-school care in the same facilities and with the same staff as during the school day to create a secure whole for our students. Your Assignment As a student assistant, you support students with intellectual disabilities who study subjects or subject areas within the adapted elementary school. You work closely with teachers, special educators, and other resource pedagogues. Together you are responsible for students' entire school day, which includes teaching, breaks, lunch, and transitions. You meet regularly to collaborate on students, planning, and pedagogical development work. As a student assistant, you follow and support students in all teaching moments throughout the school day and in after-school activities in the afternoon. The teacher is responsible for planning and instructional materials, while you are an important part of implementing instruction. You help with students' basic needs such as meals and hygiene, and contribute to creating safety, comfort, and good conditions for students' social and knowledge development. You are responsible for building trusting relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. As an hourly substitute with us, you need to be able to work on short notice for part of a day, a full day, or longer periods. You support where needed based on current and periodic needs. Your Experience For this position, you must have: - Secondary education (gymnasium) - Interest in working with children with intellectual disabilities - Good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both spoken and written It is meritorious if you also have: - Good knowledge of and experience working with children with intellectual disabilities - Knowledge of and experience working with children on the autism spectrum - Experience working with children in adapted elementary schools - Experience working in schools, preschools, and/or care, for example as a student assistant, resource pedagogue, personal assistant, support assistant, or support pedagogue at short-term housing, group homes, day activities, or other settings where you have supported people in need of support - Secondary education with a focus on children and leisure or care and nursing - Relevant education or courses in intellectual disabilities - Knowledge of sign communication and/or other alternative communication methods such as picture-supported communication Is This You? To succeed in this role, you need to be a secure, responsible, and professional person with both interest and ability to collaborate, communicate, and build good relationships with students, guardians, colleagues, and school leadership. You are attentive and open to colleagues' thoughts and ideas and see the value of strong teamwork. As an hourly substitute, it is important that you are adaptable and reachable. You answer your phone and have the ability to come to school on short notice. You are flexible, solution-focused, and have the ability to adapt to changed circumstances, always with the students' and the operation's best interests in focus. Furthermore, you are calm, stable, and controlled in stressful and pressured situations. To thrive in this role, you need to be persistent, maintain your motivation over time, and be motivated by both small and large progress with our students. You have an understanding of the complexity of the task and realize that the work requires both patience and a genuine willingness to work with students in need of special support.
